Cartier Place Suite Hotel
Ranked #30 of 68 Hotels in Ottawa
Reviewed 21 November 2012

We recently stayed at the Cartier on a one week trip to Ottawa. The rooms do have space and a full kitchen with everything stocked for its use. This is one of those instances where you get what you pay for.

The rooms are a little tired and its not rate as a 4 or 5 star hotel. If you are expecting what you pay for you'll enjoy your stay. The staff are friendly and the location is great. If you are staying here in the heating season it does take a little work to get the temperature right in the rooms.

All in all our next longer term stay in Ottawa we would consider this hotel again.

I would disagree on the street noise level with the review on retiredlibrarian. We were on the 3rd floor and facing the front and we were not interrupted by street noise in the least. You'd have to be a very very light sleeper to be disturbed by any street noise.

Room Tip: Ask for non smoking

I recently attended a conference at the Cartier Place Hotel - I would not recommend this hotel for a business meeting - or anything really. The meeting rooms were small with poor heating/ventilation, the entire hotel smelled funky and everything was just old and run down (I am extremely surprised how they've managed to pull a 4-star rating on Tripadvisor!). The staff were not in the least bit courteous and the food is some of the worst I've ever eaten at a conference or workshop. From the "mystery soup" delivered in a crock pot each day to the extremely salty sandwiches with processed cheese, I would not recommend the food at their adjoining restaurant. Although I didn't stay in a guest room, a number of my workshop colleagues did and across the board, they tell me that the rooms were well below what they expected in any hotel. The workshop facilitator found a dirty towel which had clearly been used upon her arrival and another guest came back to his room to find the balcony door open and the towel bar pulled off the wall of his bathroom. In any case, I would definitely avoid this hotel at all costs.

I recently spent two nights at the Cartier Place Hotel attending a conference. Although not fancy or newly renovated, the rooms are spacious with a full kitchen. The staff are all very friendly and the surrounding restaurants were more than adequate for lunch and dinner.

Our room was pretty basic for a basic price. Beds will soon need to be replaced as ours was not comfortable. Very difficult to control room temperature.
Desk help seemed uninterested when we had questions and were not particularly helpful.

Be aware that as this hotel is downtown there will be lots of street noise. We also had quite a bit of corridor noise as well.

Staff was very friendly and always eager to help. But other things left a lot to be desired. Both my Girlfriend and I woke up with back pain and spend the night tossing and turing during the night. The rooms were always clean and were always made when we came back to the room in the afternoons. The only bad thing is we found blood on the door nob to the bathroom on our last morning there. The swimming pool was nice and seemed to be well maintained. We only found a couple of thing floating in the pool that we could not identify, but I think you will find that in any pool. Overall we had a goo experience at the hotel and it was nice to have the kitchen to cook meals if we wanted. There are always little things you find and can nitpick about. Would recommend to a friend if they found a good deal somewhere.

The suites are really spacious and clean. Very centrally located. Relatively low priced. However parking is 21$ but the biggest problem which I faced was I had specifically booked a Spa/jacuzzi room.

The jacuzzi had 4 knobs and one start/stop button. out of the 4 knobs, one was to control flow of water, 2nd was doing almost same job and remaining 2 were of no use like the fake buttons on a toddler's wrist watch :) .. the water was extremely hot and temp cud not be controlled. i called for house keeping staff and he had no idea about it. he told me to use cold water from shower which was a foolish advice.

In the end i realized when water flow is very very slow (cud have taken 1 hr to fill the jacuzzi at that speed) then the temp. is warmish.

I had booked on 9oct night (suite was 727 or 729 - i do not exactly remember)

Regards,
Kiran

Room Tip: Suites in Winter months are very affordable

I was really amazed with the hotel, rooms, and service. We checked in without any issues, parked underground for $21/night which is a pretty good deal. Parking seems to be a hassle outside. Rooms are amazing. We got a two bedroom suite with a full kitchen and living room. This was great with a small child to have a room. Customer device met all our demands, brought up an extra crib, new coffee maker promptly. I will return for sure.
