You pay for location because you can't get any better for a night out in the market. We were less than please when upon arrival my husband had to park our vehicle 2 blocks away and walk back to the hotel in the pouring rain because their other parking was full. That was just ridiculous! There was a gross long black hair on our bathroom door handle, a noticeable lump in our carpet and some minor dirt in our sheets when we pulled back the covers. It's a big of an older hotel I think, but the beds were comfortable. It's was just annoying that the blackout curtains don't actually cover the whole window so we woke up with the early morning sun.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on Trip Advisor we always appreciate the feedback.

We strive to offer the best possible service to our guests and are saddened to hear that you did not enjoy your recent stay with us.

We do understand that having to walk from our offsite parking lot may be an inconvenience especially in the rain and for that we are truly sorry. Unfortunately on our busy weekends we are limited with spaces and therefore have arrangements with a parking lot a block and a half down the road.

I will make sure to address your issues with our executive house keeper so that we may find ways to improve the comfort of our rooms guest rooms.

Again, we’d like to thank you for sharing your thoughts about the Courtyard Marriott Ottawa.

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott over the Canada Day weekend, so as you can imagine the Hotel was very busy. We arrived at around 2:00 pm. Our room was not ready so we were directed to have a seat in the lounge area and they would let us know when our room was ready. We were served complimentary drinks and snacks while we waited and several staff came by to check on us during our 45 minute wait. When our room was ready the bell staff brought us our access cards and we were on our way. Hotel rooms were nice, standard Marriott quality. The best part about this hotel is the location. It is located in the ByWard Market, within walking distance to shops, restaurants, bars and many of the downtown attractions. As some reviews have noted, it can get a bit noisy at night because of the location, we had a room facing the courtyard/pool area so we did not have any issues. The only complaint I have is that the common areas of the hotel are not air conditioned. The Lobby, Lounge and Restaurant were quite hot. This was certainly uncomfortable for the staff working there, but who always remained pleasant and accommodating.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Courtyard for a quiet nights sleep.

Firstly, we would like to thank you for the review. Your kind words are appreciated!

Thank you very much for the kind comments of our staff. We take pride in our hotel and do the best we can to ensure that each guest has an enjoyable stay. We take our customer service earnestly and we are thrilled to hear that the staff was helpful and kind.

Like you said, our location is probably the best in Ottawa! Being located in the heart of the Byward market, our guests have access to a multitude of restaurants, bar, museum and of course the magnificent parliament building!

Guest satisfaction is our number one concern and we always try and make our guests feel at home.

Again I would like to thank you for your great words. We hope to see you again soon in the nation’s capital.

It was a great location! When walking around simply avoid the long block on Rideau near William St where the buses load and unload. Great food all around. Easy walk to Parliament Hill and attractions. Get a room on the inner courtyard to be totally insulated from any street noise. The only complaint I have is they need to stock the room with 3 hand towels (and not just 2).

We sincerely appreciate your 5 star review of your stay at the Courtyard Marriott Ottawa!

Our location certainly offers a lot to see and do all within a short walk! Parliament, the National Art Gallery and more are all located within a short walk. Not to mention the large variety of restaurants that surrounds us. This does make it a very busy area, both day and night, which can sometimes lead to street noise. A room which faces our inner courtyard is not subject to the goings-on in the area and can be requested when reserving or at check-in and we will do our very best to accommodate. If ever you require any extra amenities, such as towels or pillows, please don’t hesitate to contact the Front Desk and we will more than happy to assist.

Again, we want to thank you for posting a review and we hope to host you next trip to the Nation’s Capital!

While the rooms and service do not meet Marriott's usual high standards, it is all about location here. How much time are you spending in the room anyways with so much to do in the Byward and Parliament area? Our 5th trip to Ottawa and this was by far the best spot to get around from. You will pay $20 a day to park-park inside as recent auto breakins in area. Large pool and self service laundry was appreciated. Be sure to request inner room as the streetside can be noisy, especially on weekends. With some staff training this could be a premium spot.

Room Tip: Inside rooms on upper floor is best bet

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us as it helps us to improve our service!

We’re happy to hear that you really enjoyed our location. It is certainly one the best in Ottawa as it offers so many restaurants, boutique shops and tourist attractions all within a short walk. Our pool is a great place to relax when you’re not out exploring the city. Our parking is very convenient as you have the assurance of camera and security surveillance, in addition to unlimited in/out privileges should you had the need to leave the downtown area.

We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t feel our service met Marriott standards. We always strive to give a high level of customer service to our guest. We hope that should you visit us again, you will receive the quality customer service you deserve.

Again, we want to thank you for your feedback and we hope to see you on your next trip to Ottawa!

First let me say that it's not a full 5 stars because there is an almost $18 a day charge for parking that we weren't told about, we only found out about it on our final bill. The hotel has an arm for its parking lot, so only people with a room key can access it, so I don't think the parking needs to be THAT expensive. There is underground parking, as well, which was a nice feature (probably needs a bit more security to get INTO the hotel basement via the parking lot, but...

This was the 5th time I've stayed at Courtyard Marriott in the Byward Market, which goes to show that it is really the best place to stay in Ottawa. It is so centrally located, easy to get to, in a safe (not sketchy) neighbourhood, and the Byward Market is the best place in the city for food, shopping, with easy/close access to the sights. We walked to Parliament, the War Memorial, the Supreme Court, The Royal Canadian Mint, the Basilica and had easy access to the Alexandra bridge to cross into Hull/Gatineau (you could easily walk there to go to the Museum of Civilization/Canadian History; I have walked there in the past during other visits to Ottawa, but it is a bit of a trek; people do it all the time and we saw people in business suits making the journey!) You could also hop, skip and jump to the Beaver Tail Stand, and Giant Tiger is across the street from the hotel's, so there's that, too ;)

The hotel has recently been renovated and they did a beautiful job. It is clean, sleek, modern, and warm (as in welcoming and homey), and has comfortable beds, and a fridge in the room. The elevators are probably next on the update-list (they are that classic 80's brass), and the bathrooms in the rooms could stand to have a small towel rack in the sink-area. The room also has fast, "free"/complimentary wifi, and a hair dryer. The "view" from the room is, in most cases, looking into the courtyard of the hotel, at the roof of the indoor pool, and other people's rooms. So it's not that picturesque, but how often are you in your room "admiring the view" when you could be out and about seeing the sights!?

Courtyard Marriott is a great place to stay, and I'm sure I'll stay there again.

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to post such a thorough review of your stay at the Courtyard Marriott Ottawa!

We’re pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and that our location allowed you to enjoy some of the best sites in Ottawa. You certainly highlight some of the best attractions in the area for future guests to take advantage of. Our parking fee is very competitive for the downtown area as we are equal to, or in some cases up to $20 less per night, than other downtown properties. We also unlimited in/out privileges which is not something all hotels offer. Additionally, our parking lot is monitored by cameras as well as patrolled by our security guard and our entrance to the building from our lower garage is locked from 12am to 6am thereby eliminating any direct access to inside the building.

As we have done extensive renovations over the last few years, which included new beds, updating wall paper and carpeting, a new lobby and restaurant, and more, it is always nice to get such positive feedback! We do currently have plans being made to make one final renovation and that will in fact be to our elevators so that they will have a more modern look. I will also be bringing forward your suggestion about a towel rack near the sink in our next meeting to look into the possibility of having some installed. Thank you for the idea!

Again, we want to thank you for sharing your experience with others and we hope to see you again soon!
