We stayed in the "John McGee" room. The hard wood flooring, fireplace and antique mantel and mirror made the room so warm and inviting. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was recently redone and was lovely. Plenty of hot water for showering no matter the time of day. Great location near to downtown. Easy walking to the major tourist sights. If you have a car, they do have off-street parking at the Inn. The innkeepers are very helpful and extremely knowledgable about the area. They are fluent in English and French. The yard has nice sitting areas so you can be outdoors enjoying the lovely garden and trees. This lovely home is in an area of turn of the last century homes. Great place to walk and see examples of Victorian architecture. The home is wonderfully decorated and the breakfasts are beyond belief!!! In addition to the normal fare of cereals, yogurt, fruit and toast, McGees also offers delicious crepes with choice of bacon or sausage AND Eggs Benedict. Fresh baked muffins were provided. A wonderful experience in every way!!

My family and I recently stayed at McGees Inn and enjoyed it very much. The house itself is beautiful, the room was large and comfortable; and all the rooms had a private bathroom. We found the owners very friendly and extremely helpful with what we needed for the children. The breakfast was very good with a variety of choices from cereals, to muffins, as well as the best quiche I've ever had with sausages. The location of the Inn is very convenient being right next to the market and a short walk from the parliment buildings. This is somewhere we will definately stay again when we visit Ottawa.

Well positioned for downtown attractions. Friendly and welcoming hosts. Historical building with many interesting artifacts which added interest to the stay. Good off road parking and free internet access was a major bonus.

My husband and I and our families stayed here for our wedding. We wanted something conveniently located but still romantic and special. We got everything we wanted and so much more.

First: breakfast. I was in danger of not fitting into my wedding dress - the food was SO good. Everyone kept saying how good the breakfast was, and the young woman with the reddish hair who was serving breakfast got a special mention - she was so nice and so
helpful! My mother gave McGee's two big thumbs up, and she's not the easiest person to please. The Victorian Room was perfect as a bridal suite, the shower in the Windsor Room was a popular conversation topic, and we loved the convenience of the Inn's location. Really, we couldn't have done better anywhere else in the city, and the people at
the Inn were what made it so great. I wish there was a sixth star on the TripAdvisor rating for service "above and beyond and extraordinary."

The Inn makes a gorgeous backdrop for wedding photos. We're starting to get some photos from our photographer, and the elegance of the rooms really comes through. The photos look so classic. We loved being able to use the very large dining room and huge living room for doing things like eating lunch together (we had that brought in by an outside caterer), opening wedding presents the day after the wedding, and just talking together at the end of the day. We couldn't have had that anywhere else.

Oh yes, the rooms! My father had the Egyptian Room since it was on the first floor. It was like the lap of luxury. We teased him to no end for staying in such a nice spot. The Inn is old but surprisingly quiet - you don't hear floorboards creaking each time someone goes by. I was getting ready in the Victorian Room while the groom was next door in the Windsor Room, but in spite of all the people and activity, we couldn't hear anything from our rooms.

This was a spectacular stay. My bride and I stayed at McGee's with our two families for 2-3 days. The rooms exceeded our expectations and this inn was close to everything. The breakfast was delicious and everyone liked the eggs benedict. The staff was friendly and very accommodating to our requests. We got some great photos during the preparations for our wedding thanks to the historic setting of the inn. As luck would have it, two of my nieces left behind a wallet and iPod after checking out, and the staff quickly tracked them down and returned them to us. This was a great romantic experience and the perfect place to host our wedding guests.

On Saturday, Hubby and I left behind the noise and grit of our city to head off to the noise and grit of another city. We were celebrating belatedly our wedding anniversary, and I had the brilliant thought that it would be so romantic to stay in a bed and breakfast overnight. Taking the advice of someone who had stayed at McGee's Inn in Ottawa last year, I took the plunge and booked a reservation for one night. My only regret now is that we could not stay a second or third or fourth night...

The B & B was on one of those streets lined with beautiful old homes dating back to the late 1800's--some brick Victorians, others made of stone. This one was built in 1886, with three stories of Victorian brick, twelve-foot ceilings, Tuscan columns, and some gorgeous antiques. It has taken the family who owns it seven full years to restore it to the state in which I saw it, and apparently it is still a work in progress.

The colour photo of Room #18 on the inn's website was what captivated me at first sight. Think pale green wallpaper, original wood moldings, quilts, an antique desk and best of all, a private screened-in porch on which to relax or entertain guests. Call me nostalgic if you will, but let me enjoy a trip into the gentler past.

Breakfast was the cherry on top; with a choice of raspberry crepes with whipped cream, ham and cheese omelets with farm sausages, or eggs Benedict with sausages, you could not go wrong. Everything was fresh and delicious and served by friendly waitresses who were glad to share the locations of attractions in Ottawa with us.

I really do hope that one day we will be able to return to enjoy it all over again--maybe on our second honeymoon!”

Thanks again,

Bonnie Bosch

it was our 1st wedding anniversary. we were not sure whether to go to the swiss inn again ( we loved it in the forest king room) or try mcgees. we chose to try mcgee's. which i think was about $40 cheaper.

we stayed in the egyptian room.on the site it claims to have a double jacuzzi, but my husband hardly fit in it by himself. there's no way it was a double. the one in the forest king is literally twice as big. we used it in the evening, and the jets timed out, and wouldn't turn back on. several hours later they turned themselves on when we were in bed and scared us half to death. there are cracks in the mirror behind the jacuzzi, and all over the ceiling.
on our second day, the cleaning person came into the bathroom area while we were in the jacuzzi despite our many yells to let them know we were in the room. and at 2:30 am when we were sleeping we heard two gun shots outside that sounded like it was right in front of the building.i know that isn't their fault but, it's the area, i guess.

the decor of the room is just beautiful, and the bed was so comfy. it was very clean. there are a few channels with no sound on the t.v. which was annoying. we could hear quite loudly the t.v in the next room. the sound of machine guns wasn't very romantic.

the breakfast is not great. the omlett i had was really good, but the fruit salad was really cheap (mostly melons and cantalope) and the yogurt was also really cheap. its not a buffet breakfast. the coffee was just awful.

it's a nice place but for the $ you'll be spending, go to the swiss inn. it's a far better experience.the people are 100x friendlier. the breakfast is far far better. the jacuzzi was superior and overall they just don't cut corners like mcgee does.
