After driving all the way from New Brunswick, we decided to stay one night in Ottawa. We booked a room at the first hotel we saw, since it was already close to 10pm. The Value Inn looks like a big motel from the outside. And it's basically that. It use to be the Econo Lodge East Ottawa up until recently and the new owners didn't upgrade the rooms.
Got a room on the first floor. The room was ugly, with ancient furniture. Cigarette burns on the bedsheets, even though it was a non-smoking room. The room was big enough, but the bathroom was tiny.
Employee at the desk was friendly but I didn't like the fact that he said the regular rate was much higher than what he made me pay and what was posted on the back of the room's door. Like he was doing me a favour.
The worst part was that I realized that I stayed at the same hotel about 10 years ago (it used to be a Travelodge) and had a bad experience at the time too. I'm not going to get fool again!
