We stayed at Benners' B&B towards the end of our two week holiday in Canada and it was the least enjoyable of all our stays - the room was OK - clean, if a little small and without any natural light (except via the bathroom) - The main problem was the noise at night - just from people walking around in the room above ours - the floorboards were extremely noisy - and from the kitchen which seemed in constant use (even at 2a.m!) We also found the attitudes of the "hosts" a problem - they were less than welcoming and rather cold - we felt like we were a nuisance! The breakfasts were OK but very basic.

We stayed for 2 nights in the Laurier Room (the smallest and cheapest of the rooms) and have to say that it is the cleanest and one of the most attractively furnished B&B's that we've stayed in. The chocolates were a nice little touch. The breakfasts were gorgeous and varied, it was no problem at all that I was a vegatarian. The owners were hospitable and the location was great. It was a 15 minute walk to the Byward Market past many different ethnic restaurants, several of which we tried and loved. The only thing that could be better were the very squeaky floors in the bedroom - they looked lovely, but you did squeak with every step! All in all though, it was excellent value for money and it was a pleasure eating with other guests and the host at the breakfast table.

We spent two nights at the Benner's B&B in Ottawa. It was a great experience. The hosts were very friendly and efficient. We had the MacDonald room which was located on the second floor. In fact the almost the whole second floor belonged to whoever was staying in the MacDonald room. Private bath including a jacuzzi tub was located down the hall. And for those that had a third party with them there was a second room just down the hall furnished with a single bed rather than a cot.

The room itself was nicely appointed with bath robes, a small tv, comfortable bed and linens, desk and a small private patio right off the room. Everything was very clean. The flooring was the only problem that we had with the room, it was probably the original hard wood floors and although refinished nicely, they squeaked a lot and we constantly felt like we were being loud just walking across the room or to the washroom.

Breakfast was excellent. Our first morning we had a dutch pancake and the second we had fritatta. Both mornings there were at least four kinds of fresh fruit, along with coffee, tea and orange juice.

The B&B is located just over a mile from the Parilment buildings and even closer to the Bywater Market. We found it an easy and interesting walk.

The only thing you may want to note is that they had a dog living inside and it was in the dining room at breakfast. It wasn't a problem for us.

Overall we had an excellent stay and would definitely return.
