We recently stayed at the Hotel Indigo for a weekend. We reserved a room through OttawaTourism.com. We requested a room on an upper floor, a non smoking, non pet, quiet room. All of these requests were fulfilled. The lady at check-in was very pleasant and efficient.

We went to our room on the sixth floor and were satisfied with the room. The hotel is newer and is appropriately furnished. We then went to park the car. You actually park under the adjacent Marriott Hotel. The parking is very limited and very tight. Be advised that although the Hotel Indigo provides escalators to go up to or down from the lobby, the Marriott does not. There is a staircase that must be traversed, a possible issue for elderly visitors or others with any mobility issues. As stated, the parking is very tight, lots of back and forth maneuvering is necessary.

During our stay we made inquiries of the front desk staff regarding area attractions, restaurants, etc and they were always very friendly and helpful.

The shampoo, etc... products provided in the room were high end. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were just so-so. We both noticed that after walking barefoot in the room our feet were very dirty. This hotel is in a city and the rooms have windows that open. Therefore the wood floors in the guest rooms really need to be damp mopped, daily.

This hotel is two or three blocks from Sparks street, the pedestrian only street. Another block or so to the Capital buildings. A bit of a walk to most restaurants.

IHG is the owner of many hotels in North American and controls the PriorityClub. Overall our experience with IHG and their properties has been very positive.

We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.

Dear Mike A,

Thank you for chosing Hotel Indigo for your recent stay in Ottawa and for providing such a thorough review of your stay experience with us. It is the feedback we receive from our guests that allows us to continuously improve.

I am happy to read you found our staff to be friendly and helpful. They are definitely the heart of the hotel. Thank you for your feedback on the guest rooms. We recently upgraded our beds to the Simmons Beautyrest Mattress and we are currently researching new pillows to enhance the sleeping experience.

Our neighbourhood is great for exploring all Ottawa has to offer and as you say, we are close to many attractions and restaurants.

Our parking garage is underneath the hotel next door and I apologize if we did not communicate with you that there is an elevator that will take you to the second floor so you do not need to manage the stairs.

We appreciate you recommending our hotel and we look forward to seeing you again!

Best,

After a busy day of driving, my brother and I decided to stay in Ottawa for the night and regroup. Nothing was available anywhere near the downtown, luckily we found an online deal for a reasonable price. Upon checking in we were told that there was a glitch in the system and that the room we booked was unavailable. Still, Ms. Sophie did something that very few people know how to do these days--she found a solution! They not only gave us a cot they also gave us complimentary breakfast as a token of good gesture for the inconvenience. Thank you again Indigo and thank you Sophie for taking care of us.

I like this hotel. Its well kept, ideally located, with great rooms and helpful staff. I stay there on business and its ideal for me. I get a great night's sleep and I like the king beds and laminate wood flooring in the rooms. They have a good restaurant - try the burger. One annoyance -you eat a healthy breakfast of oatmeal, fruit and a coffee - expect to pay twenty dollars.

Hello, was at the hotel for a work meeting over a few days. The rooms were clean and neat, the laminate floor eliminated a lot of the dust associated with hotels. The staff were courteous and the location is convenient to many restaurants, and attractions. Would not be opposed to going there with the family.

Room Tip: avoid corner rooms, in some hotels they are larger, in this one they are smaller.

First impressions were really good. The hotel is in a convenient location and we had great service at check-in. We liked the decor and while it is not a very new hotel we thought it had some style and charm. My husband, stepson and I stayed only one night. The bathroom was roomy and clean and the beds were comfortable but a bit difficult to move around as the room was a little narrow for those size beds. Unfortunately, we didn't have the best sleep as the light from the hallway shone under and around the door into the room all night (it seemed the door was too small for the frame) and the air conditioner was quite noisy.

We had a lovely stay at Hotel Indigo! I had requested a corner suite with a jacuzzi tub but although we didn't receive it, we enjoyed our room very much. From the impression I was getting from reading the other reviews, requesting a corner suite would be much roomier as well as your not facing the inside of the hotel, but our room had a city view and was just what we needed in terms of space, we didn't find it to be too small but also not too big. We loved that we were nearby the attractions. We were near the Parliament as well as Sparks St. When we arrived there though on Friday night we were looking for a happening area with a place to grab a few drinks. We were surprised to find Sparks St. empty! We were told to go to the Market area where we found civilization and a few spots to grab a drink. The only thing that was a little odd was that the shower area in the bathroom didn't really have an enclosure, rather the entrance to the shower was opened so when you're showering it wasn't really keeping the heat in so it was a teensy bit uncomfortable but other than that was fine. The restaurant (I think it was called The Phi) was amazing for breakfast. We ate there Sat. morning and ordered in room service Sun. morning - the same breakfast which was great. Yes, the parking area was a little weird, but like the other reviewers mentioned, it's easier to drop your luggage off at the entrance first and then park. They gave good instructions on where to park and how to make your way back to the hotel so no hassle. Overall a great stay with good value and close to everything which was met our expectations.

Room Tip: Head to the Market area for a few drinks!

Hotel Indigo is, architecturally at least, less of a cookie-cutter experience than other hotels. Located inside an older building, it is built around a central atrium. Some rooms look out onto the atrium; others have windows on the outside of the building.

We chose a room facing outside, a corner king room. It was very spacious, with more storage than a traveller could possibly use who is there for only a few nights. There was a separate nook with a table and two chairs, a fridge for our use, a flat-screen tv, and a very pleasant bathroom with separate shower and bath.

It had four windows, which provided lots of daylight. Each one had a small section at the bottom that opened--I always appreciate having "real" air, and not having to breathe recycled hotel air!

The bedside radio had separate buttons for playing "nature sounds" and other calming music. I fell asleep listening to the nature sounds three nights in a row. I was grateful for this feature.

The hotel and room decoration is non-standard, with variations on shades of blue, as befits the hotel's name. I found the floor-to-ceiling mural of pale-blue birch trees in our room a little odd; still, our room was more like one found in an upscale inn than a room in a hotel.

Now for the drawbacks. The hotel does not have its own parking, but shares with the Marriott next door. You must walk over to the lobby of the Marriott, then take an elevator down to parking level three. Exiting and entering the parking area would be worrisome for all but the most confident drivers: The exit corridors are two-way, but they are barely wide enough for one vehicle. If you encounter another vehicle on your way in or out, you must back up--way up. A lot of larger vehicles also seemed to have trouble manoeuvering around the very tight corners.

A second drawback, at least for us, was that there was a lot of noise from the street. The hotel is only six storeys tall, and we were on the fifth floor. That placed us rather close to the street level--and the hotel sits at the corner of Laurier and Metcalfe. There was a lot of noise early in the morning--both traffic and construction. We were a little surprised that the windows did not keep the sounds out better, even after we ensured that all windows were shut tight.

We still haven't found the perfect hotel in Ottawa, for us, but Hotel Indigo is certainly a contender, based on its unusual ambiance and spacious, comfortable rooms. The question is just whether the parking and the street noise cancel out those benefits.

Room Tip: If you want space, pay a little extra and book a corner room. If you want outside air, book a room...

Dear Introvertica,

Thank you for choosing Hotel Indigo for your recent stay and journey to find the perfect hotel in Ottawa. I am very happy to read that we are a contender in your quest!

Hotel Indigo is a branded boutique which provides the consistency of a brand and the uniqueness of a boutique hotel and I'm glad you appreciated non-traditional decor as well as our upscale amenities such as our iHome iPad Docking Station. We have taken a poll on our favourite sounds so I'll add your vote for the nature sounds!

Please accept my apologies for the frustration you experienced with the parking and the noise from the street. We have a few challenges as a hotel in the downtown city core and I'm sorry they impacted on your stay experience with us.

Thank you again and I hope we will have the opportunity to invite you back to Hotel Indigo on your next visit to our neighbourhood.

Best,
