The Wandering Pheasant Inn
Ranked #5 of 13 Pelee Island B&B and Inns
Reviewed 10 June 2013

We (a group of 14 friends) began our annual cycling adventure here on May 26th, 2013. We stayed two nights at the Wandering Pheasant Inn taking all the suites in the back area (huge comfortable basic clean rooms decorated in varying themes), and three rooms in the main house. Sandra, our host, was very accommodating, helping organize a caterer for our dinners (Chris Watson did our meals and we highly recommend considering this option if organizing a group). She gave us great suggestions for touring the island, and even washed and dried our clothes upon returning from a rather wet day. We appreciated the hot tub after long days of cycling and hiking. Her two summer students are wonderful and always helpful. Breakfast was a little disappointing (no eggs) but in no way deters our plans to return again someday! The inn and island are a relaxing oasis in this chaotic world.

Room Tip: for privacy the suites at the back are a lovely option, each having a screened in porch with small f...

The room was spacious, comfortable and modern yet the main house and the grounds were charmingly rustic; a wonderful combination. The covered porch was a terrific place to enjoy the sounds and smells of the country without being plagued by bugs. The hammock was a favourite of the BF.

We stayed at a charming inn on Pelee September 19th. The grounds were lovely, the breakfast great and the suite with private bath well worth the extra cost. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom had high end shampoos and creams. Our host, Sandra, was warm and welcoming. She's also an amazing decorator; each room and suite is different and beautifully decorated. She also is an excellent cook, and she accommodated my dietary needs. It was a relaxing and enjoyable mini vacation for us. We strongly recommend this B&B.

Room Tip: Suites are well worth the money.

We were able to partake in the very hospitable B & B. Our host and owner Sandra made our stay very enjoyable. The property just off the beach is spacious, hot tub easily enjoyed under the oak trees, breakfast bountiful and varied each day of our stay, very tasty. Sandra made us very welcomed and provided expert tips on touring the island.

Room Tip: The suites in the back section are quiet and spacious

I would highly recommend this property. Sadly we only stayed for one night on our way to Cleveland. The ferry service is an easy way to get your vehicle to the island. We left from Kingsville, ON and after our stay took the ferry to Sandusky, OH.

When we arrived Sandra was outside tending to her beautiful very well kept property. We got to see some rare creatures (hummingbird moths) which was very exciting. Sandra then walked us through the main house showing us all the ammendities. When we booked we had explained that we had food allergies. Sandra had no issues preparing the items we brought and added her special touch with garden fresh items from her garden.

I am usually in need of "things to do"! I found the Inn and Island great for simply exploring and being outdoors. The Pelee Island Winery is highly recommended and Sandra provided us with complimentary passes. We also made the journey out to the light house, which gives you a nice view of the lake. We covered most of the island by car in a couple hours. We have many areas that we will explore in more detail on our next trip.

The room was very nice and spotless. It was nice to simply lay in the hammock and listen to the sounds of nature. The bed was comfortable and restful. We did not get a chance to use the hot tub, but it looked very inviting.

Thank you Sandra for tending to our dietary challenges. You have a beautiful Inn, we will be back.

We stayed for two nights in the main house along with two other couples who are friends. The names on the doors of the rooms are cute and the decor in each room is unique. The rooms are a bit small but it wasn't an issue as we only went to our room to sleep. We were concerned we'd be tripping over each other for a bathroom but that was never an issue there are 6 bathrooms to choose from. The common areas are clean and inviting, we made use of the living room, screened in Gazebo and the barbecue on the deck. The gardens are planted with flowers that invite birds and butterflies, we were delighted when Sandra introduced us to our first time seeing a hummingbird moth.

It is very evident that Sandra really cares about making an inviting place for you to visit this is never more evident than in the breakfast. It started each morning with coffee, fruit, baked goods and jams and ended with a hot meal. We had a different breakfast each day and you could tell each meal was made with care.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Wandering Pheasant it was a low key, relaxing weekend that we were able to enjoy with friends. We definitely recommend a visit here,

This is the place to go if you just want to relax. The suites are the best, as you have your own bathroom and porch to sit out on at night. The beds are perfect, so comfortable. We have come here several times and it gets better every year. Sandra and Rita, the Inn keepers are very friendly, they enjoy what they do and you feel that when you arrive.
This is a great place to get away and go to the winery for some wine and food, then enjoy the hottub on the grounds at the Inn and then sit in the hammock on the porch of the suite. How relaxing is that. Can't wait to go back....
