We stayed five nights at the Liftlock B&B in the two executive suites. The rooms are in a separate building from the main house and are connected via a door. The kitchenettes are small but are clean and have all necessary materials (plates, bowls, cutlery, as well as microwave, toaster, coffee maker). There are small tables fit for two in each suite and a small sitting area off the back with a table for four. Bedding was provided and was clean and comfortable. The children loved the pool and canoes. The location is perfect for people wanting to access Peterborough shopping and restaurants. The only negative (although the children saw this as a positive) was the dogs. They tend to bark when you are moving about the property and there can be some odour from their feces (not in the unit but when you are outside).
We were desperate for a quiet getaway and stumbled upon this quiet cottage right on the canal. The footage has two rooms which can be rented separately and were very clean and tastefully furnished. It had all the necessary needs- tea, coffee, dishes utensils glasses in the mini kitchenette. We enjoyed our canoe rides on the very calm canal. It was absolutely serene and peaceful. Lots of space to enjoy nature. Doreen, the owner, also has some Alpacas which are very beautiful looking animals and are very friendly.
Doreen made us feel very welcome and comfortable. It is located very close to the Peterborough Lift a Locks ( you can walk from the cottage however we drove). These lift locks are the highest hydraulic locks in the world. Quite fascinating. Restaurants and shopping also within a 10 minute drive. We visited the FREE Riverview Zoo which was quite nice. They even provide wheelchairs and strollers if needed at no charge. Well worth it. It was a very relaxing and beautiful vacation.

Phil and I had the private little room with the porch/deck facing the back of the property and we've decided it will be OUR room when we book again and again. A quiet little location, end of the road and a nicely laid out property (I'd say put in more flowers and it would be perfect, grin - but I know that's a lot of work).
Our host, Doreen, was a gem, she was so friendly, laid back and engaging with great stories of her life (we were fascinated and asked). She was very accommodating with breakfast times and was so helpful in making sure we felt at home (we had access to the canoes, pool, sun room which was also the breakfast room, fed the Alpacas...)
The room was well maintained, clean, welcoming and our private deck made us decide to order dinner and stay in to enjoy the evening (Sorry Doreen, we seem to have misplaced a fork!).
Breakfast was all home made. Fresh breakfast cake with FRESH peaches (and yoghurt) Light fluffy omelette, sausage, potato, cheese, ham croquettes, offered toast, tea, coffee... looking forward trying what else is in Doreen's recipe book
Pool was shallow (4ft? deep), perfectly maintained, refreshingly cool and not over chlorinated.
The area to canoe was perfect for a little evening / early morning paddle (likely would get busier other times).
I would call this BB a retreat, but one can easily make it romantic, next time we'll bring candles ;-)
Reason I did not give it full stars for room is to gain full 5 the room must be expectational and not just lovely ;-)
We'll be back!
We had a lovely two night stay at Liftlock Bed and Breakfast. Our room was immaculate, and very comfortable. The setting was gorgeous, a piece of the country right in town...so quiet, lots of birds, saw a heron and a fox. Great walking trails right there, great view of the canal and swing bridge. Lovely breakfast and the owner was delightful, we learned a lot while chatting with her after breakfast. Would go back for sure!
Thanks so much, Doreen, for your warm hospitality and a very enjoyable stay at Liftlock B&B. Such an surprise when we crossed the bridge and found ourselves in such a pretty country location, just a stone's-throw from the city.
We felt so welcome and accommodated. I really enjoyed going with you while you fed the Alpaca, and seeing how beautiful they are up close. We thought your breakfast room was lovely.
When visiting Peterborough next time, we will be sure to book with you again, and would recommend your B&B to anyone looking for a little Oasis just on the edge of the city.

Another couple, my husband and myself stayed in the adjoining suites in the cottage. The suites were immaculate, beds comfortable and we really enjoyed the fireplaces after a day in the snow.
The area is beautiful. People were cross country skiing and walking thru the country trails, An area had been cleaned off the canal for ice for skating. While our men went ice fishing in front of the B&B, my friend and I toured the city. We watched people toboganning down Armour Hill and skating under the Liftlocks. Liftlock Bed & Breakfast is located in a wonderful country setting but only minutes to the downtown area. They have many speciality shops to explore.
We ventured thru the canoe museum and had lunch at a wonderful pub downtown.
Each morning Doreen served us a gourmet breakfast in the dining room. The view was spectacular overlooking the canal. She has two deer and a goose that kept the country feel alive. I would highly recommend this B & B for a vacation. If your looking for something away from the normal hotel vacation, this would be the place to stay.
Liftlock B&B has a country farm feel. The dogs, deer, geese, chickens, open fields, dead end road, and even the architectural style all give the illusion of being on a farm. But it’s only an illusion – downtown Peterborough is only 2 miles away. Definitely a place to get away from the crowds and still be very close to town.
We stayed in one of the cottage suites. It was spacious and clean, but not luxurious; overall quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Doreen is an excellent and engaging hostess who treats her guests well.
The on-site canoeing and boat dock are uncommon features for a B&B. We arrived too late to paddle, but the flatwater canoeing certainly looked attractive.
