Merci pour votre revue, Eric…we have live entertainment 3 nights a week in the Water Tower Pub, a favourite local meeting place with its 16 on-tap beers. We do have very hospitable staff, thank you. I make sure they see the many accolades guests write.

This hotel promotes themselves as "a resort for the price of a room". This is Sault Ste. Marie we're talking about right?

Upon arrival the greeting was pleasant and professional and check-in was easy and quick with our reservation.

I agree with the other comments that the rooms are nice and the beds are very comfortable. Our room had a queen bed and a queen pullout which I am told was typically poor quality as most pull outs are. The bathroom was 'tight' (small) with an upgraded walk in shower which was very nice. There is a small bar fridge with no controls and did virtually nothing to keep a couple of water bottles cool. Overall we had a good 2 nights sleep but I didn't have to sleep on the pullout. The AC was inconsistent and we were either cold or hot and the controls seem to make no difference. Funny thing that happened was that there were 4 of us in the room but the room only had 3 bath towels. I asked for a received 2 extra towels but when the room was cleaned the next morning, the extra towels were removed, leaving us with 3 towels again. I suppose they want to keep the theft of towels to a minimum but honestly, the towels were pretty poor quality and wouldn't be worth taking if I was so inclined.
The biggest concern I have with this self professed 'resort' is that they do not include breakfast as part of the healthy room rate. The hotel has a Casey's built into it and they are open for breakfast but a family of 4 will spend an additional $30+ just for breakfast. We spent $45 with tip. Be sure to include this cost factor into your travel budget and you will likely find it less expensive to stay somewhere else.

We go to the Sault at least once a year and will look for another hotel for our next visit......one with breakfast included!!!!!!

Thank you for your straight forward review. We have just very recently replaced all our nearly-new sofa bed mattresses with the best quality product of that type, and hope they will offer our guests the quality they deserve. We do use our slogan “A resort for the price of a room”, because we offer amenities that few like hotels in the area provide. Sauna, 2 pools, and 2 whirlpools, one of which is the only 4-season out-door whirlpool in the Sault, located in a treed courtyard with streams and waterfalls…quite pleasant. Our Trailhead Adventure Hosts are specifically trained to give you detailed information about attractions and adventure activities in the area. We have an uncommonly broad selection of room and suite types, and 2 very different restaurants; Casey’s Grill.Bar, and the Water Tower Pub which offers 16 beers on tap and live music three nights a week (home to the Sault Blues Festival). We provide free wireless throughout the Inn. We are looking into the towel situation; thank you for prompting us to do that. At check-in, we give each guest a comment card with space for any issues, but a call to Reception is the best on-the-spot solution. Our Family Package is good value and includes breakfast and dinner from our family menu. Frequent guests with 5 nights or more per year do receive a free breakfast. We make sure we are competitively priced, and feel we do deliver a lot of value. We hope you do reconsider next year’s stay at our Inn.

We booked this hotel as part of a group block for my son's baseball tournament Labour Day weekend. Check in was done via a trainee who was particularly thorough and friendly. These personality traits seem to extend to the entire staff, from front desk to housekeeping, all who were friendly, accommodating and efficient.

The hotel is not luxurious, but very clean, well maintained. We had a room with two double beds, mini-fridge. Starbucks coffee in the room was a nice treat, along with fresh cream and milk in the fridge was very much appreciated. Those little touches made all the difference.

The kids enjoyed the amenities such as pools and hot tubs. Most of the team members ate at either the Pub or Caseys (both on-site) and good reviews were made by all about the quality of food.

At one point, while waiting to see if we were going to advance to the next day, despite many of the families having checked out, we went back to the hotel who provided a hospitality room to wait in, and then when necessary, allowed us all to check back in on the same group rate.

I cringed as kids came back from games drenched from rain, full of mud, often with cleats still on. As they trudged through the lobby they were never met with looks of disdain from staff but with cheerful hellos and "how did you do?". On Monday, our day of the championship game, they hotel provided a late check out so we could come back and get cleaned up before heading home. Many of us were even late for that check out given we were busy celebrating, however, again, cheerful congratulations from staff and no worries about being late.

For these reasons I would not hesitate for a moment to book this hotel (or for my clients given I am a travel agent) again.

The only one negative I have about the amenities is that there are no laundry facilities. They would have been handy to have given the conditions of the fields on the weekend.

Thrilled by your review; you talk about checking out late because of “celebrating”, so sounds like a successful game weekend. I’ll certainly include your gracious comments about our employees in our monthly staff newsletter. Our guests, like you, are delighted to find each of our rooms has a bar fridge, with fresh milk and cream inside (not that powdery white stuff….what is that made of!) for their morning Starbucks coffee. Team weekends are usually family affairs, with Mom, Dad and siblings, so we try our best to accommodate special needs. The kids always love the pools and whirlpools in Club Cabana Aqua Spa, and when you’ve spent the day at the rink or the soccer field, it’s so easy to have two good restaurants within the Inn, at your fingertips so to speak. Appreciate the laundry challenge with muddy uniforms. We generally direct guests to a neighbourhood Laundromat; you can do your own or they’ll do it for you. We look forward to hosting your team again.

The Water Tower Inn is nothing fancy, but the staff is exceptionally friendly and polite. Despite that there's no complimentary breakfast, the hotel is adjoined to Casey's restaurant, that has a breakfast service and serves Starbucks. (I instead went across the street to the all-day breakfast joint for breakfast.). There's a jacuzzi outside, which is beautifully maintained, jacuzzi inside, and 2 salt (chlorine free) pools inside. Gym facilities are small but they are open 24 hours, which is nice if you're busy or there on business and need to get up early for a sweat. Locals also can be members of this pool, so I managed to talk to some friendly people that gave me the low-down on the good eateries in and around 'the Soo'.

You’re from Helsinki, Finland. We have quite a Finnish element in Sault Ste. Marie, as you’re likely aware. Best cross-country ski trails in the north right here. The Inn’s owner, JJ Hilsinger, actually skied the 75 km. Finlandia some years ago. Glad your stay was pleasant and that you enjoyed our pools. Did you used the sauna too? Thank you for your review and your compliments to our superlative staff.

Superb staff... they all had wonderful personalities, great humour, professional and welcoming.

We ordered a pizza through the pub. It was made in a wood over and features their house-made marinara sauce that was incredible. YUMMY!!!

Apparently they have a 24 hour gym, a pool, an indoor hot tub, an outdoor hot tub, and a sauna. We didn't use any of those facilities but understand they are nice and we would take advantage next time. And, there will be a next time!

Now for the room... it was spacious and comfortable, clean and a perfect temperature. It offered a bar fridge, and there was a large shower stall and lovely vanity in the bathroom. The towels were more rough than I'd have expected or enjoyed, but not the end of the world. The tv was a large screen flat panel that was very new. There was a comfortable sofa, too, and the tv could be turned towards the sofa or the bed.

The bed and sheets were fabulously luxurious! They offer 7 types of pillows, also. I could have stayed in bed and been fed that pizza for a week straight...

We had a queen sized bed in our room and the room cost us $129 for the night... a lot of value for the price. I easily could have stayed another week or two. This is a gem in the Sault.

Room Tip: try to book through an online site to get an even better deal and you'll feel like you're on...

Great review Nick and Nora from London, Ontario…are you sure you’re not professional copywriters? I swear I could use this in our brochure. Sorry you didn’t get to enjoy Club Cabana Aqua Spa and Tempospa Health and Fitness, which indeed is open 24 hours. So glad you are coming back!

The staff are all very friendly and make you feel welcomed.

It has the best pillows and duvet among all the hotels I have stayed.

As I checked out the night before my departure, I asked the front desk to book me a taxi in order to catch a 6 am flight. He immediately suggested that I could ride in the hotel's shuttle with the air crew. Wonderful suggestion. As I left, the staff reminded me if I needed a wake up call. They are very attentive to details.

If you would like the Ritz,, don't go to the Sault. For comfort, friendliness, helpfulness and good food go to the Water Tower. We have stayed there for years on the way to our cottage, and every year they exceed our expectations.

Thank you Alfred D. for your heartwarming review. And you’re all the way from Los Angeles. I was prompted by your reference to the Ritz to explore the origin of the term, which is now a dictionary word spawned by the style of famed Swiss Hotelier César Ritz (1850-1918), known as the "king of hoteliers and hotelier to kings." Ritz redefined the meaning of luxury in 1920s Europe with his management style in hotels in London and Paris. It’s true we don’t have crystal chandeliers, nor have we entertained kings (that we’re aware of), although governor generals and quite a number of big name performers have happily graced our suites. Your compliments to our comfort, friendliness, helpfulness, and good food pretty much sum up our brand of hospitality…along with our northern Ontario ambiance and architecture, unusually large choice of rooms and suites and the convenience of everything under one roof, including two full restaurants, a spacious fitness area and a unique aqua spa area with pools, whirlpools and waterfalls. Wishing you many happy days at the cottage.

V1920, in ref. to the luxurious Ritz hotels in N.Y., London, Paris, etc., commemorating Swiss hotelier César Ritz (1850-1918). Ritz (n.), as in put on the ritz "assume an air of superiority" is recorded from 1926.
