My girlfriends and I flew into The Soo on Friday afternoon for 2 nights as we were taking the Agawa Canyon Train Tour on Saturday. When we arrived, we headed to the bar for a drink while our suite was being readied. We had arrived 2 hours before check in. They allowed us to check in early and soon we were enjoying the amenities of this full service resort hotel. The suite had a queen bed with a glorious comforter and a double bed in a shared room. There was a modern kitchen with a bar fridge and a microwave. We also had a pull out double couch in the tv room. The size was perfect for 5 women. We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor hot tub outside the pool where we could buy a beer. It was lovely with the waterfall in the background. We noshed on appetizers in Casey's Restaurant which is adjoining the hotel. Th next morning I headed down to the restaurant to check out breakfast. To my delight there was a Starbucks available for my morning coffee. The lady behind the counter was exceptional. She allowed me to order our breakfast sandwiches for pick up a few minutes later. We grabbed our sandwiches and hopped into our waiting cab that had been pre-arranged by the front desk.

Overall, the experience was excellent. We were all impressed with the service of the hotel staff. We were so relaxed we ended up staying in our room and missed the entertainment in the bar that evening.

Our only recommendation would be that if you know how many people are staying in the room to have enough towels and glasses so we don't have to bother housekeeping. Other than that, The Water Tower Inn is grand! Thank you.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "A Suite For All"

According to your profile you have visited 95 cities since 2009. That’s impressive, and we’re thrilled to have a seasoned traveller like yourself review the Inn. We get Agawa Canyon Tour Train visitors all the time, and since they need to get to the station early in the morning, they appreciate the fast or eat-in options for breakfast just steps from their room. Too bad you missed the live music in the Water Tower pub; we have this 3 nights a week. Along with Casey’s Grill.Bar, visitors have everything they need under one roof, which makes early-to-bed and early-to-rise so much simpler. The colours have been awesome this fall, the weather perfect, and so glad you and gals had a wonderful time.

The Water Tower is a true gem, we've been coming here for over 20 years to ski, hike, boat and Never Disappointed. Newly remodeled and with the new exchange rates and improving Ontario economy, it is a bit pricey, but it truly is a full service resort. awesome pools, outdoor hottubs, Canadian Sauna, live music in the pub (hot Newfoundland band 2 weeks from now!) Take your wife and/or family, get in the car and drive up from Michigan and go to another country!

Room Tip: worth going with the snuggleloft mattress, fantastic

Thank you Petoskey (one of my favourite places to get away to). You’ll know that we operated the Searchmont ski area as the Mountains of the Midwest for 15 years, and have always promoted cross-country skiing (we are avid enjoyers of both skiing disciplines). We have many kilometres of amazing trails just 5 minutes away, and snowshoeing too in that most amazing wilderness topography that is the Canadian Shield. Our outdoor whirlpool set against the starry sky and lighted waterfall is a pretty cool après-ski stop. So love your enthusiasm, and do enjoy “The Once” on October 24th in the Water Tower Pub when you visit us again. We do live music Wednesday, Friday, Saturday. Thanks so much for your willingness to share. Oh yes, and the Snugglebed, truly the best sleep you can have, in tandem with our pillow choices to make sure you don’t miss your own bed.

Always a good stay here. Standard rooms, quiet and comfortable. Small fridge and Starbucks coffee supplied. Beds are fine and bathrooms bright and newly reno'd. Restaurant and bar on site. Convenient location to airport. Pleasant staff. Would definitely recommend.

Well thank you…we love to have reviews from our Toronto visitors. Oh…can I mention the fresh cream and milk in the bar fridge to go with the Starbucks coffee. We’re a family-run hotel, coffee fiends who love our Starbucks…so why would we not share that pleasure with our guests! Not sure what type of room you chose, but beyond our “standard room”, we have many room type choices, including 12 different suites. And free Internet, everywhere.

This hotel is on the Trans Canada Highway, but right in town, in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and caters to tourists, travellers, business and sportspeople.

I arrived during a lull in tourism and was upgraded free to a "Trailhead" room that has a tiled area in the room where you could hang your wet outdoor clothes, and perhaps bring in skis to dry overnight. However the normal rooms are fine too. The bed was great. Wifi works properly and the desk was fine for working using a laptop,

There is a free shuttle in the morning to the hospital and some other locations, There is a decent gym. I haven't used the pool. They have very good conference facilities.

There is an attached Casey's restaurant that opens early for breakfast, and a pub with live bands 2-3 nights per week. On a couple of past visits I've gone down to hear the bands, and they were blues bands and pretty good.

The hotel is surrounded by multi-lane busy streets, and there isn't much urban street life for walking around, but fairly nearby is the city's lovely hub trail through parks and woods. The hotel is close to major shopping centres. Traffic noise was not a problem as the rooms are well back from the roads.

Hello highly-observant reviewer from Toronto…thank you for your detailed comments. We are located in a high-growth area in Sault Ste. Marie…can you believe when we built in 1974, we were surrounded by fields? Anyway, you are right…one does not notice. And fair-weather visitors love to sit out in our main courtyard to enjoy the little bubbling streams and ponds among the trees and flowers. We also have the only outdoor whirlpool (all seasons) in the city. The Water Tower Pub offers live Wednesday Blues, Friday Jazz, and Saturday Dance (and 16 beers on tap). Active folk can tap into our Trailhead program too….our Trailhead Adventure Hosts can provide detailed information and maps on activities in this beautiful city and surrounding wilderness area.

We arrived after 10 hours of driving split between a 4 hour trip, an overnight stay and on to the hotel. When we arrived we were informed of the train cancellation(apparently they did call but we had already left on the trip) and offered us the train trip inn price for the night- 119.00. That was it. This was our first trip to Sault Ste. Marie so we had no idea of other options etc to visit . No suggestions were made and no offers of breakfast or anything other than the reduction in price for the hotel. Too disappointed to really complain(train cancellation was not their fault) we complained the next morning about their handling of the problem and how we could have been welcomed better. On our own we looked for other attractions Bush Pilot Museam(great!) for our next day and found there a "Free 25.00 Traveller's Pac" from the Water Tower Inn. That would have made us feel better when we arrived to find our trip had been cancelled but finding it after complaining the next day at the Bush pilot Museum confirmed for us that the Water Tower Inn were not concerned that we booked their Agawa Tour package again. We will visit the area again next year, hopefully the train will be running but we will not be using the Water Tower Inn.Trip advisor has given it a high rating but under adversity the Water Tower Inn did not show it had the class of a great customer service hotel. And this is when customer service counts!! to the traveller.

Room Tip: Both of our rooms were very hot and we could not get the air conditioner to cool either of the rooms...

The washout of a major rail trestle has been a devastating blow for businesses in Sault Ste. Marie. Countless tourism dollars are being lost as workers toil around the clock to rebuild the structure after the severe flooding the area suffered 2 weeks ago. The Agawa Canyon Tour Train is a tourism lifeline, and even more so during the Fall Colour season. Mother Nature has very bad timing. We scrambled to contact all our train package reservations. I can understand your disappointment, especially since we were unable to reach you before your departure to the Sault. We have received so many thank yous for alternatives we’ve provided our train guests. In fact, we didn’t lose one train tour bus group because of other itineraries we offered. We’ve looked back to our report from the days of your visit. Through our Trailhead Program, our Front Desk staff are superlatively equipped to assist guests in creating plans for adventures and attractions in the area, but it appears you fell through a communications gap. We did offer you a free breakfast when you voiced your discontent at check-out. We apologize for failing to respond adequately to your predicament, and hope that somehow you might consider a return to us. May I also address your HVAC issue? We have been monitoring our new units for some time, due to other guest comments, and have found that the guest-operation design is not very intuitive. We are affixing instruction labels for guests in order to overcome this. Thank you for your review…the train disaster was unpreventable, but we could have done better.

My daughter, her dog and I stayed here on the first night of our drive to Edmonton. The pet-friendly room was clean, spacious, comfortable, and had just the faintest odour of stale cigarette smoke, but no pet odour.
The staff were friendly and helpful. After 9 hours on the road, it was nice to settle the dog into his crate and then just walk through the lobby to the bar for dinner.
What the location lacks in character, it makes up for in convenience when you are passing through town.
Although we didn't use it, we could see that other guests were enjoying the pool.

Glad you stayed at the Inn and took comfortable respite from your x-country trek. Our location, like you said, is very accessible, especially from the Trans-Canada highway - and of course, there is lots of parking, especially for large vehicles. Our courtyards with streams and waterfalls offer a beautiful, quiet respite from the bustling city - perhaps a little of that "character" you felt was lacking. As you discovered, the Inn provides everything you need under one roof (2 large licenced restaurants…Casey’s Grill.Bar and the Water Tower Pub). It is unfortunate that you weren’t able to relax in our large Club Cabana pools, including our soaking hot outdoor whirlpool. If you do return from Edmonton this way, please drop in again and enjoy.

Merci pour votre revue, Eric…we have live entertainment 3 nights a week in the Water Tower Pub, a favourite local meeting place with its 16 on-tap beers. We do have very hospitable staff, thank you. I make sure they see the many accolades guests write.
