“Beautiful and welcoming place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

I visit Stratford every year, and only discovered the Stone Maiden Inn last year. I stayed there again this year, and was again delighted with the experience. The host and hostess are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable - I had one of my best sleeps ever! The breakfasts are wonderful and well presented, and the service is excellent. And the location couldn't be better - a very short walk to downtown Stratford. I highly recommend it.

We have stayed at the Stone Maiden Inn on numerous occasions when visiting Stratford. The Inn is always clean and Pat and Tricia are friendly, accessible, accommodating and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and we are happy to recommend this Inn to anyone visiting Stratford.

The proprietors and staff are all attentive, without being obsequious. The breakfasts are top quality and tasty. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The conversations with the other guests in the "family" room are stimulating, ranging from Travel in Paris to raising children in Hong Kong. Our compliments to the Innkeepers for the very enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Rooms are all named for Shakespearian characters.

We booked ourselves rooms at the Stone Maiden Inn for the second year in a row and found again we had little choice of rooms due to not booking more than two months in advance. Due to this our beds were doubles which we would not usually book but our two rooms were well appointed and decorated in a modified Victorian style. We slept well and in the heat of August the rooms were cool. Our adult children were able to walk downtown and to the Avon theatre from the Inn.
The Innkeeper was welcoming and had we needed her services would have helped us with restaurants and tourist attractions.
The highlight though was the breakfast. We were there on a Sunday when Eggs Benedict was on the menu. I have had many an Eggs Benedict over the years but I can't recall having one better. They definitely should hold on to their chef!

Room Tip: During the season rooms book up early so better choice the earlier you book.

The accommodations were so comfortable, and we enjoyed the extra special touch of the sparkling wine waiting for us for our anniversary! The breakfast selection and the scones were so delicious - I was so glad to bring some home for our family to enjoy. It was just a total different experience than our usual hotel stays. We highly recommend this place to anyone travelling to Stratford.

The entire experience was restful and welcoming. The dining room is set up like a restaurant so you can join others or be at your own table. The entire house is decorated beautifully and each bedroom is well appointed. We look forward to staying at the Stone Maiden Inn again next year.

The things I really loved about this place: the architecture, the lovely staff, the owners, the chef who not only makes amazing food but also gives fabulous hugs, the commitment of this place to serve wherever possible locally sourced food, the bathtub full of herbs at the side of the inn, the beautiful music, the morning papers, the computer available for looking up stuff, the rubber duck on the side of the bathtub, the sketches of Stratford costumes everywhere, the sitting room in most bedrooms, the service, the 24 hour availability of water, coffee and tea, the incredible breakfast, the amazing coffee, the chess set in the parlour, the patio, the fireplaces, the information board about what's going on in Stratford, the claw-foot tub in our room, the location - within walking distance of just about everything, how clean everything is and Trish, Trish, Trish...what a lovely, helpful, caring person! She made us feel like we were her only guests and that we were just the best thing ever. When the shower head was spouting water over the curtain in one of the rooms, she had it fixed in no time. What I didn't love about this place: the slightly funky, je-ne-sais-quoi scent in our room, the bouncy bed which was crammed into an overhang and didn't have fitted sheets on the mattress so we fought with the bed clothes all night. Our daughters found their single beds very hard and difficult to sleep on. Just a personal preference, there were not enough books on the shelves. Would I recommend it? Yes, in a heart beat. Will I go back? Yes, tomorrow if I could, but next time I will book earlier (this was booked in March for a July stay) and get rooms with king -sized beds. Positives far outweigh the negatives on this one. Don't freak out when you get there and find it's right beside the railway tracks, only one train a day was going through when we were there at about 8 in the morning. This is, for the most part, a lovely place to stay. Word to the wise, at the time of booking (in March) our credit card was charged a deposit fee of one third of the cost of the stay.

Room Tip: We slept in Annabelle. I didn't enjoy the bed which was very bouncy and crammed into an alcove s...
