Stayed here recently when taking in some plays at the Festival. My first choices were not available, so I tried the Arden and found it, while a rather generic hotel experience, quite fine.

It has little of the charm of some other local establishments, but is reasonably located, clean and with friendly service.

Food (we had breakfst only) was generic hotel quality as well, but considering hte price, not a bad deal overall.

The Arden Park Hotel is off the beaten path, and views from rooms (busy street, vacant field) are less than inspiring. The rooms are tasteful and clean, but the bedding smells musty. In the room where I stayed for 3 nights, the stopper in the bathroom sink was broken and had to be "propped" to drain; the faucet in the shower was backwards and it took quite a few minutes the first morning to figure out that warm water came from the "cold" end of the spectrum. The second morning of my stay, the wee coffee pot died and it took 3 queries over the course of that day to get it replaced -- by dinner time. The service in the restaurant is good and the food isn't bad, but it's VERY expensive for what you get. And then there is the advertised "indoor pool and hot tub." If you dip your big toe into the pool it will disappear in the filthy, murky water. There is no odour of chlorine, because I don't think they've used any in that pool in years! The hot tub is even scarier - black mould is clearly evident in between the tiles.

"Railroadruth" has written a negative comment here and i would just like to clarify what really happened as i was a guest on that particular night as well. I happened to have been at the Arden Park that day in June and ijust so happened to have been in the pool area that night. "chris" or the night manager that was working, had come into the pool area at 10pm to advise pool goers that the pool closes at 10pm and that he would keep it open for another 15 min. i waited for his return before i got out. When he did return, everyone was still in the pool and he gave a 10min warning, and of course 10 min later when he returned and everyone was still in the pool he did not get "snippy" he merely said in 5min he would lock the doors as it was now 10:30pm and the sign on the door clearly stated 10pm. this guest pulled the manager aside and chastized him in front of the rest of the hotel guests about him being told it was open until 11 even though it stated on the door 10pm as u enter the pool area. To use the staff members name in this forum has got to be against some privacy law to start with but in any event this event did not fold out the way this ignorant customer makes it sound. This customer was looking for a "free ride" and used every excuse to get it.

Stratford is a lovely little university and artsy town in Ontario. A conference was held at the hotel and the staff were outstanding. The hotel was clean and tastefully decorated. It has 144 rooms, restaurant, bar, swimming pool and free internet access. it is a short walk to downtown Stratford, the Canadian show place for drama.

If you enjoy staying in a hotel which looks like a hospital from the outside and has the depressing atmosphere and look of a home for the aged inside, then this is the place for you! Caught at the last minute and wanting to see some theatre over a couple of days, this was one of the few hotels or Inns that were not sold out. Now we know why. The room was dark and dreary in spite of blazing sunshine outside due to the inordinately small window and the black-out drapes bleed through the light at dawn. The bathroom was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Those were the only positives I can think of. The dining room hostess informed us that the kitchen could not keep up with dinner orders (this on a thursday night) when we wanted to dine and so we went and had a wonderful meal at Pazzo much further down the street. They definitely could keep up. The front desk staff were a prize-winning study in indifference both at check-in and check-out. All this would be fine if the rate we had paid reflected this, however the rate paid was nearly twice as much as what one would expect to pay for what was received. Avoid if possible. Much better accommodations elsewhere (Swan Motel,Mercer Hall Inn,Foster's,Bentley's...etc).

After almost 20 years of attending the shakespeare festival, we have tried almost all of the hotels/motels in the stratford area. When the arden park first opened, we were delighted. We have been booking reservations there for our family's annual stratford trip every year since then. However, this will be our last year. We usually book a suite so all of us can fit in the room, and in the past it has been a truly wonderful experience.

This was not the case this year. The rooms were not clean. Dirt and dust was along the edges of the carpet, which was horribly stained. The tub was cracked. The housekeeping service didn't even bother to leave new towels and extra toilet paper (basic things when a family of 4 stays, right?). On top of that, we usually stop in the restaurant downstairs after an evening play for a lovely cup of cocoa and a dessert to discuss the play we just saw. However, at 9:30pm we were greeted with the apology that the "kitchen closed at 9pm". We ended up with watered down from a MIX hot chocolate and a sour taste metaphorically and literally left in our mouths as we walked out. Customer service is now non-existent at a once lovely hotel. I do not know what has changed, but we were not the only family to take note of this. We can honestly say that we were completely and utterly dismayed and disappointed with our stay. We will never return to the Arden Park Hotel and I am writing this review to warn others of such an overpriced, under-whelming place. I hope I have helped someone else avoid this place by writing this review. I wish someone had done the same for me and my family!
