We had an opportunity to visit this unique restaurant in July! The selection and quality of the meal was incredible! The location is quaint and beautiful! The wine selection was wonderful and mostly VQA choices. It is defiately somewhere I would like to visit again!

The Prune presents a very ambitious menu, which would be difficult to satisfy at the very best restaurants, and certainly not in Stratford! What pretense. Portions were small, presentation lacking, service mediocre, prices exhorbitant and food boring.

We should have know it was not going to be a good experience when we were seated at a table jammed in to a corner with the restaurant practically empty. We thought well, with the heavy rain perhaps the other diners were just late. Not the case- only 4 tables occupied while we were there. From uninspiring cuisine,my wife ordered the venison and it was served on a bed of limp greens with no vegetables, to asking the server to bring us our wine 10 minutes after our main course had been served, it was a disappointing experience. At these prices- $49 for 2 courses, $64 for the 3 courses- we expected more. Don't go.

A couple of years ago we had one of our worst dinners ever at a fine dining restaurant when we ate here - ignored for twenty min., red wine poured into used white wine glasses, poorly prepared bland food, cold coffee. We knew that the owners of the Stratford Best Western had bought the place and decided to go back. What a change. We were seated at the same table we ate at last time but the service and food was night and day different. The menu was much more interesting, for ex. lamb tartar for an appetizer with chilies and coriander, and the food was delicious. Portions are sized to suit the multi course pris fixe menu. Wine suggestions are on the menu for every item, but many are not available by the glass, so we asked the server to ask the sommelier to suggest something appropriate. He came over and explained the glasses chosen for our two appetizers and was able to suggest a half bottle that worked for both our main courses. The restaurant is almost exclusively serving Ontario VQA wines from top notch wineries.

Homemade bread and excellent butter as well as an amuse bouche of a Thai spicy coconut soup were offered to start the meal. They have also introduced a water filtered system to remove the chlorine from the local water. - a great idea as Stratford water has a very unpleasant taste. The ambiance is quiet elegance and the view into the back garden is lovely. Music in the background doesn't compete with your conversation. $275 with tip for 2 with wine so less expensive than Rundles but still a $$$$ restaurant. A few blocks from the center of town. They have their own parking lot - gravel, so be careful in high heels as they can get nicked.

We go to the Stratford Festival every year. The Prune is our must do restaurant in Stratford. Beautiful atmosphere and very creative food. We try new places each year but the Prune is by far our favorite.
