Small, family-run and very special. We arrived on an icy night - they met us at the door. We were shown to a private 'room' and the service was intensely attentive. Each course of that night's menu was not just art, but an amazing taste experience. Major emphasis on Japanese fish with unique flavors. A range of sake choices, we went from light and dry to more pungent that suited the latter part of the menu. Every aspect of the ingredients and preparation was explained. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in traditional ways, with wood, art and the soothing sound of water. We have been to Japan a number of times and always found the city of Kyoto to be a highlight for beauty, culture and food. We could have been there for dinner. Afterward, we were invited to our private tea ceremony and then escorted to our car in the freezing rain. Yes, expensive, but a place for a very special occasion and worth the price in every respect.
