“Accessibility okay; too many changes to the menu”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 February 2014

Ate dinner here with some friends after a day of shopping.

Exterior accessibility is okay. There is lots of space, and the doors are fitted with automatic openers.

I always order the same thing -- the blue cheese sirloin or the red curry bowl. Have gone to Jack Astor's for years, and have been ordering this same thing for a long time. I was extremely disappointed to find that both of my favorite items had been removed from the menu.

We waited a really long time after being seated to get drinks, and it was very very busy -- crowded and loud. No matter where we could have been seated, I was in the way of wait staff and other patrons. I worried the whole time that we ate that someone was going to trip over my wheelchair and cause disaster.

The food was okay - passable at best. We waited a very long time for drink refills and had to send our drinks back the first time because the soda was flat. Like other customers, we had to ask for each and every condiment to be brought to our table and waited a very long time for delivery.

My biggest complaint about this restaurant is the bathrooms. They, like many other restaurants have wheelchair accessible toilet stalls that are not large enough to accommodate a power wheelchair. So you end up peeing with the door open. If you require attendant services, there is no family/wheelchair only washroom that would allow enough space for two people, or an attendant not of your gender.

Additionally, the bathroom doors are not automated, and are quite far from where staff are stationed. If you need assistance top open the door and you are alone, you will end up waiting a long time to get some help. If you try to open it alone (as I did!), prepare for it to be very, very heavy.

This is not a place for people with sensory disability or sensitivity to crowds; very loud here. There is visual stimulation everywhere (TV's: all of which are tuned to sports), and there is loud music playing overhead. If you are eating with little kids, the crayons they give you at the table are a nice distraction.

“Awesome value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 February 2014

Located at the Scarborough Town Center, it's east to access both on and off the Highway. Huge parking lot. Clean restaurant with lots of seating. Quickly seated by a smiling hostess and attended to by a great waitress. Ordered the roadkill sandwich at lunchtime. It was perfect and well made. Coffee and water was brought immediately. The service level was impressive. It's clear the staff get along great.

“Good burgers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2014

Jack Astors seems reliable. I mostly enjoy the burgers and some of the appies. Depending on which one you go to, the one at the old AMC in Whitby has always been one of my faves. Good night if you want crowds, maybe sports on their many televisions. It can be loud. Not a " date " place. They do a great job on their burgers if your looking for that kind of food in a more upscale plus other than a burger joint. The other favourite Astors was in Richmond Hill at number 7 way back when,... when it was more like a bar, you could throw peanuts around and the bar tenders threw bottles about as a show,..those days being long over, it is more a family place but still, decent food. .

“Not healthy, but you knew that already”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

The food is greasy but good. High in sodium. Vibrant atmosphere, friendly staff. I went as a vegetarian with a bunch of meat eaters so at least there was something on the menu for me, not a lot, but it's there. More than the typical bar and grill. We had a good time, I can totally understand its popularity.

“Chiken club sandwich & Le Montréal special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 October 2013

Le Montréal spécial is a smoked meat; excellent one that I eat with french fries and a slice of dill.

My wife had the Chicken that she like too.

Rachel take care of us; smiling and comprehensive, fast and polite.

They have music that fit all ages I think.

Girls and boys that are serving at tables are Young, probly Under 25, clean and well dressed.

Special to be served on the old wrapping paper where there is the table number and the name of the waitress.

Excellent place to eat in a good atmosphere.
