“Tour Guide Ruined It”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013

Chose this tour because of the previous great reviews. The bus was comfortable and was easy to pick up however the tour guide spoke incessantly with a monotone robot voice that was like nails on a chalkboard. On all of the stops the return time was at half past the hour and on one of the stops I guess we were confused because we were trying to get on the bus at 12:28 as the driver was pulling away. He stopped and let us on and then proceeded to berate us over the bus speaker. I was so humiliated! About a half hour later he called us out again over the bus speaker-because of 13 minutes! He later apologized to us but the damage was done. It completely ruined the rest of the day.

Niagara falls was beautiful though and I recommend a trip there if you are in the area.

“Bad weather, great tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

My family enjoyed the Niagara Falls tour. We left early and stopped at the Skylon tower. Great photo op...then on to the falls! Even in the pouring rain they are wonderful! We made some photo stops including Niagara on the Lake stop. Finally a winery stop and then flexible drop off back in Toronto. We loved all the factoid the guided had.

“Good tour. Entertaining day with Mel (Driver)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2013

This is one of the cheapest tours to Niagara falls from Toronto as far as I know. It was great. Lots of info from the driver that kept the journey entertaining in spite of pouring down.

I hope you guys enjoy the trip as well with this co.,

“Last week of the Maid of the Mist for the season”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2013

Picked up at the Hard Rock - waited a bit for a few people that didn't show, but there were no other stops and off we went. (Glad we didn't have to go to a central location and get on another bus as we have had to do on other tours.) Learned a lot and enjoyed our driver's (Mel) sense of humor. Because we didn't go up the SkyTower, we were taken to see the Falls from above. The Maid of the Mist ends for the season this week, so we were glad we were able to do this, although we got pretty wet. Had some time to grab something to eat, although not much. Made a few picture stops and then off to Niagara-on-the-Lake - wish we had had time to eat here and also shop - would have enjoyed at least another 1/2 hour here. The trip back was quick and I am glad we didn't get stuck in traffic. The cost was reasonable and a lot cheaper than another tour our hotel suggested. I am glad I saw this was rated high on Trip Advisor and chose it instead.

“Wish We'd Been in a Bus”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

We have just returned from our day trip to Niagara Falls. Let me first say that our driver, Mel, was very pleasant and provided a good amount of information on our trip to the falls. But we were extremely disappointed with two major aspects of this tour.

First, when we arrived at our meeting point, we were surprised to find that our bus was actually a limo. There were seven of us on this tour: 1 in the front with the driver; 3 in the middle seat; 3 in the rear seat. That meant that my husband spent the 1 3/4 hour trip (each way) sitting on the hump, with nothing to hold onto except my shoulders. It was also stiflingly hot, with occasional bits of air conditioning, not under our control.

Second, our first stop was at the Skylon Tower. This is an additional $12 per person, payable to the driver in cash. We knew when we booked our tour that the tower would be an option. What we didn't know was that it was a 35 minute stop, with nothing else to do. We weren't exactly pressured to do it, but went anyway, rather than just sit/stand there. The tower itself is very ordinary, but IS worthwhile if you have no idea of the layout of the falls. Our choice to go was the right one; we just wish it hadn't been the only reasonable choice!

(Note: They take a couple of pictures before you go up, in front of a green screen, and you can buy them when you come back down. Very touristy, of course, but they do a few creative poses, like making it look like you are in a barrel about to go over the falls, and ours turned out really well. Not everyone likes those kind of pics, but if you do, these were cute.)

Our next stop was at the Maid of the Mist. This was an AMAZING experience. Having already seen the falls from the tower, we didn't expect much new by riding around on a boat. But it's hard to imagine how close you get to the falls, how wet you can get (thank goodness for the free ponchos), and how loud they are. There is so much water (churning below you, spraying you through the air) that at times you can barely see. It was quite a surprise.

Despite the "free time" that we had, once our boat ride was over we only had about 40 minutes to shop or grab something to eat. We ended up at the Starbucks in the nearby Sheraton. The area around the falls doesn't have much to offer except touristy stuff, but we would have liked to sit down for lunch.

We made three very quick stops on the way back (the whirlpool, the dam, the clock) which weren't any big deal, but then we had about an hour in the little town of Niagara on the Lake. We wish we'd had more time there. It is full of little shops and several nice café-type restaurants. Unfortunately, there was no way to shop and eat, too. So we basically skipped lunch, and only had time to look at about half the shops.

Our last stop was at the winery, where we sampled one table wine and two ice wines. There was no tour, just the samples and a gift shop. It was a nice, quick stop, and we bought two bottles of wine.

Finally, it was time for the return trip. And here I must give a shout-out to our driver. There was a major accident on the freeway we were about to take home, but he recognized the situation, and quickly decided on an alternate route. I have no doubt that he saved us from at least half an hour -- if not more -- of sitting in a huge traffic jam. He gets great credit for that.

All in all, we had a good time. But the Chariots of Fire website says you will return by 5:00, and we were back (including the traffic detour) by 4:15. So we would have loved more time in Niagara on the Lake.

If you are visiting Toronto, I strongly recommend taking a Niagara Falls tour. Most companies offer very similar touring plans, and Chariots of Fire is one of the least expensive. For my money, I would be willing to pay more to be on a bus next time. But our guide was good and the day was fun.
