“Gracious Accomodation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2014

Wonderful staff in a gracious, beautiful hotel with excellent food and drink! The service is excellent, the rooms and the hotel are decadent. A great central location as well. Staff want you to be happy.

Had the opportunity to stay here during the Toronto power outage. The rooms were gorgeous! Service was spectacular. The Sunday brunch buffet was out of this world! Staff were very helpful and accommodating in every way. A beautiful hotel near everything. Thanks to everyone.

Really good hotel, the rooms are really good. So much more spacious than most of the other hotel rooms downtown! Staff's really nice and they upgraded us to the newly renovated rooms so the room we got was really modern and everything was spot on! Would definitely come back! Highly recommended for a stay downtown TO.

Spent two nights at this hotel and was extremely disappointed. We obviously were not given a room in one the refurbished rooms. After reading all the reviews and with the reputation this hotel has we decided to book our two night getaway somewhere nice considering it was over New Year's Eve. Although the staff were friendly, that is the only thing good I can say... check-in was effortless and the hotel clerk was very courteous. We got up to our room on the 8th floor and the fun began. The room was very tired and old looking. The furnishings were extremely outdated and the tables and desk had scratches all over them (huge scratches and gouges). The television did not work (we had to call maintenance and have them bring us a new television). The bathroom lighting was horrible !!! There was no light in the shower and the lighting above the vanity was so poor it was almost impossible to shave or apply makeup. The curtains had dirt all over them and there was huge water stains on the ceiling in the shower and it almost looked like the ceiling was going to come down. When we booked the room our confirmation said "deluxe king overlooking the city" ... we had a king room but looking into the rooms across the courtyard from us ... no city view! We had drinks in the bar after a day of walking around the city (yes I know drinks cost more in a hotel), however, a domestic beer was 3x's the price of anywhere else and furthermore, there was a bartender who not only made a drink wrong once, but made it wrong three times in a row (White wine spritzer ... not rocket science). I was extremely disappointed with this hotel and will definitely not stay here again. The location is great but our experience was extremely disappointing. Maybe things would have been different if we had been given one of the refurbished rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

Dear Susan B,

Thank you for a detailed account of your stay with us. I sincerely apologize for your experience and regret that the room assigned to you was not to your liking. While we realize the need to update the guest rooms and are in the process of renovating in phases, we are truly sorry for the lapses in service. We have discussed the issues you mentioned with our team for corrective action and hope that we be given another opportunity to deliver an exceptional stay. We are at least happy to know that you received friendly and courteous service from our staff.

In the recent ice storm in Toronto was stuck and here they provided a room at short notice at a special price and also an upgrade. A slight problem with a room charge was immediately rectified without fuss or problems.
The staff is professional, courteous and helpful.
I have never had anything but a great experience at this hotel-even for something so simple as a coffee in the Library Bar.
It is my preferred hotel in the city.

Room Tip: Hotel has some rooms with enormous bathrooms. But these can be a bit cold so check the thermostat...

Perfectly located right downtown and adjacent to public transit. Quiet rooms and great service. Fixed all the problems that I encountered. Brand new refurbished rooms are clean and up to date. I was there with my fiance for a new years get away and we weren't dissapointed.

I stayed here with friends over the new year period and overall it was a fantastic hotel. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms and it was a decent size with a huge modern bathroom. The lobby was very traditional, and the Christmas tree inside was very pretty.

Rooms had robes, iron, hair dryer, toiletries, huge tv etc - pretty much everything you'd need for a city break.

My one gripe about the place was the check-in man (I think his name was Todd Lowe) who was the most patronising, rude man I've come across in any hotel I've ever stayed in. Every problem I had was met with resistance and zero apology e.g I booked a twin room (ie with TWO beds) and was only given a room with one bed, his response 'well if you stayed in hotels in North America you'd know that twin means one bed' and when he made me become a member of the hotel group in order to get free (slow) wifi his response was again 'well if you stayed in hotels you'd know that you have to become a member to get free wifi', to top it off when I asked for our single camp bed (no rooms with two beds available) to be delivered quickly as we'd just got off a long flight and were tired his response was 'pretty much all of our guests have just got off long flights' - ummm okay. Firstly I am a regular traveller, secondly a twin room does mean two beds even in N America and secondly we continued our trip to montreal where we stayed in a lovely hotel with free wifi without 'becoming a member' - I think the hotel should really rethink who is the first contact point for guests upon arrival at the hotel.

The rest of the staff were lovely though in particular the staff in the hotel bar and also a great guy on guest services Shawn Robinson who went above and beyond in helping us book tickets to the ice hockey.

Yes I'd stay again as it was a great hotel but I'd hope for a different check in man!
