I didn't have a choice in hotel selection for this trip - a host organization paid for the room. I have to say I was rather leery about staying here because of some of the negative reviews (old, run down, needs renovation, etc.), and was ready to change hotels if I didn't like my room. But I was pleasantly surprised and relieved. My room on the 11th floor was clean, quiet, and spacious, equipped with a tall mini-fridge. Yes, you could see that the hotel was older, but the tub and surround looked fairly new (a bathfitter kind of look), my sheets were clean and smelled fresh, and the pillows were better than average. I was satisfied - this is a solid 3-star hotel.

Close to University of Toronto makes it a convenient location. Stayed for 10 days. The room was fairly comfortable. Free wi-fi is a great bonus. The pub in the lobby serves some great food though the morning asian staff is not so helpful. Had a great time in the evenings with the Karoke.

3 night stay here whilst on holiday.
The room was a decent size with a desk and free wifi. Comfortable beds. Clean room and tea/coffee available in the room.
The gym on the 2nd floor was reasonably equipped but the swimming pool is not in the hotel which we hadn't realised when we booked.
There are 2 PCs with printers in the lobby with free internet access which were useful for checking in online for our flight home.
We were on the 9th floor at the side with a view toward Bloor. Convenient for the subway and for the hop on hop off bus, stop 6 or 9 depending which direction you're going. Lots of choice of restaurants nearby.
The hotel is definitely a bit dated but we didnt mind that as it was clean. However we did find the front desk staff unfriendly. A smile wouldn't go amiss when checking people in!

Was working at the U of T and the location is perfect.
However this is not your usual HI Express: front desk is helpful but not all people are knowledgeable, crowded small lobby and the so called " business area " is jammed in along one wall.
No cafe but they had the run down and dirty pub attached open at 7 am.
The housekeeping was good however my room on arrival had a long piece of the ceiling hanging down in the bathroom. I reported it the next morning and it was roughly repaired by the time I returned at 5:00.
The room was small but serviceable, the hall carpets were wrinkled and dirty and a general worn and dated appearance throughout.
I needed one night car parking (20$) which caused a lot of confusion with the front desk, but they got it straightened out.
I would stay there again, understanding the limitations and appreciating the location.
However there are other hotels in the same area that bear exploring.
Went to the ROM and explored the upmarket part of TO in my time off from work, all accessible on foot as is the subway and buses.

Room Tip: Higher street side has a nice view

well appointed rooms, really noticed nice quiet. Air conditioned worked well and adjusted accordingly to room temperature without it being too cold or hot. Bed Mattress quite good with choice of soft or firm pillows. Hotel floor hallways from elevator seems new and nice. Very clean room and bathroom.

Meeting room was a bit small and check-in was average.

Much better than expected.

Room Tip: Room near back of hotel was very quiet!!! :)

Got a good rate for a 3 day stay and decided to take a chance after reading other reviews. The location is great as it's about a 45min walk to Rogers Center and only a block away from the subway.

As others have mentioned, the hotel is very rundown and not up to the standards of most Holiday Inns. We stayed on the 3rd floor and there definitely was a funky smell, though everything did appear clean. The hotel pub is disgusting and stank like stale beer. We wanted to eat there one afternoon but couldn't tolerate being there for more than a minute. The front desk staff were polite and were great at recommending other restaurants and pubs in the neighbourhood.

We were away from the hotel for 10+ hours a day exploring Toronto and thought it was a good deal. I would definitely not stay here if you planned on spending most of the day in and around the hotel.

Dear Jon V,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our hotel. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed our location for your visit to Toronto.

I would have to agree that out hotel is in need of an upgrade. We have submit an application for renovations to IHG with hopes of being renovated soon. We are in a great location with a lot to do right around the hotel, and with 150 restaurants within a 10 minute walk you will never go hungry.

Thank you again for your post and we look forward to seeing you again.

Stayed for 6 nights for business trip. The room had a comfortable bed, one work desk with a comfortable chair to sit on, a small desk with sofa, cable satellite TV, iron/ironing board, and a fast wireless Internet. A good size of bathroom with everything that I needed. The air con worked well and quiet.

Overall a good hotel for a business trip or a holiday where not too much time will be spent at the hotel. It also well situated; 10 min walk to University of Toronto, within a walking distance to China and Korea towns.
