“Great downtown hotel with friendly staff”
Reviewed 15 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed five nights here, in a suite on the 18th floor. The room was spacious and bright, with floor to ceiling windows and a great view of the city hall and parliament. The location is excellent. You can walk in minutes to the Eaton centre for shopping, younge street, and the Bay Street area, and in ten minutes you are in Chinatown and Kensington markets. The tram and underground are just outside the door of the hotel so you can be anywhere in the city in a few minutes. Loads of breakfast options in the area, including eggspectation just behind the old city hall.

Was looking for a hotel with an outdoor pool. Pool was good, lots of shade and overall clean. Good location in TO, has a Starbucks in the lobby. Valets were friendly and courteous. Hotel is under construction (25th floor) we were informed when we checked in, wasn't a big deal.

The Hilton is less than 10 minutes' walk from Union Station and really well located for all downtown attractions - including the nearby, superb Art Gallery of Ontario. The overall look and feel of the hotel is contemporary so it definitely isn't the Fairmont Royal York! The rooms are large and nicely decorated, the bathrooms small but again well decorated. We only ate breakfast in the hotel which, as with all Hilton breakfast buffets, is superb.

Room Tip: The higher the better to enjoy Toronto's skyline.

Loved the hotel. Staff were so helpful. Excellent executive lounge. Rooms were great too. Easy walking to all attractions. Some great restaurants close by and concierge was very keen to help. Kept our luggage for 2 days when we visited Niagara Falls and arranged the pick up for us. Definitely will return.

Room Tip: Executive room

We had a terrible experience with this hotel. We drove for almost 4 hours and when I checked in at 5pm I was looking for an hour to relax before heading out to a Jays game. When we got to our room on the executive floor, I noticed right away that we shared a wall with the elevator shaft and it was really noisy. I called the front desk and spoke to the 'duty manager' named Rian. I told him that my room was noisy from the elevator and asked if I could get another room. He said he would send someone up immediately with a new room key for us. After 10 minutes someone came and escorted us to our new room. It was 12 floors down but in the same place....sharing a wall with the elevator shaft. COME ON!

I decided to go and talk directly to the 'duty manager'- Rian at the front desk. I asked if we could get a room that is not next to the elevators. Without even looking in his system he quickly told me that there were no other rooms available. I absolutely know that he is lying at this point. There were other couple being checked in beside us as well as other people waiting in line behind us, how could there not be a better room? I explained that there was no way that I would pay over $300 for a room for one evening and not get any sleep. He quickly offered me a refund instead of trying to remedy the situation and satisfy us as customers. Completely frustrated with his attitude and inability to get anywhere with him, I accepted a refund and went elsewhere. I asked if they would pay for our parking that we would be charged in the 'park your own' section of their lot. He refused to do that as well. I asked for his manager but he refused to get me anyone else. Rian proved to be completely unprofessional and not interested in pleasing his guests. We ended up having to pay $12 to park and be mistreated then leave 20 minutes later. Absolutely ridiculous.

We ended up staying at the Hotel El Germain and received MUCH better treatment and service. The rooms were much nicer then the original one we received at the Hilton and we even paid less for it. It just goes to show that you really need to shop around and not trust that the hotel names that you have heard of are the best...because this experience clearly proved to us otherwise.

Room Tip: Construction noise all day long! Ask for a room away from the elevators if you decide to book here...

We stayed on a Friday-Sunday and found the location excellent for downtown access and the staff was very nice. The Queen St W. #501 streetcar is only a block away and the subway is also very close. Lots of places for breakfast, and other meals nearby.

We arrived late in the evening and assembled two separate reservations with the front desk staff so that we didn't have to switch rooms mid-stay. They did that for us and suggested that we take a room on the 31st floor that had just been renovated and re-opened the week before, We did. They stored our bags because the room was not ready and we were off to a bar for a short while.

The ride to the room was great in the scenic elevators that are on the outside of the building. The room was nice and set up well with a separate area for the bathroom and closet. The bathroom was nice because there was a magnifying light and the shower was the rain-type. Tip - only turn the shower lever about half a turn and the temperature should be pretty good.

There is a Starbuck's, a bar, a little store, and a Ruth's Chris steakhouse in the lobby area.

The staff were all friendly and helpful, despite the fact that every customer seemed to demand a view of the CN Tower from their room.

At the time we stayed, we were awakened at 9:00 to the sound of drills and saws as construction must have been going on upstairs from us. Luckily, we had to get up at that time anyway but sleeping in late would not likely be possible if you wanted to. The room also did not have a fridge, microwave or minibar. The Internet connection was fast and consistent.

I'd certainly stay here again.

This hotel is located really close from Queen Street where there are lots of places to eat and shopping to do. The hotel was very clean and spacious and highly recommend this place for a family as well. There is Starbucks in the hotel which was very convenient in the morning. Also we took an advantage of the hotel pool too.
