“Run-of-the-mill”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

Although the room (two double beds) was quiet and comfortable and the service personnel efficient and courteous, the hotel itself was not to our taste: the lobby is huge and heavily trafficked - a bit of a zoo. The dining options are not appealing and limited - we chose not to eat here. The main dining area - THE MARKET is run-of-the-mill cafeteria style. The Bistro/Brasserie not a bistro at all (apparently it's undergoing restyling and for the moment is open only for pricey breakfast). There's an attractive Espresso Bar and a regular beer/alcohol bar; the latter doubles as breakfast buffet venue for tour groups only. The hotel is bordered by four main streets: Yonge, Elm, Bay and Gerrard: this section of Yonge Street is very tacky. Bay and Elm streets are more pleasant and afford some full service restaurant options. The valet parking option is good and well organized. We were here in early June and the heat was turned OFF, the only way to warm up was to keep the air conditioner OFF. Also the room didn't smell clean; fortunately, we were able to open the sliding doors on a small balcony which allowed air to circulate.

Room Tip: Not sure one gets to choose. Our room on the 8th floor looked out on Bay and was quiet. The beds wer...

Just had 3 nights in this hectic, dated hotel. Location is great but this hotel is just so big and busy, you are treated like more of an ant on a conveyor belt than as a paying guest.
Our room was on the 23rd floor and although there are 6 lifts for that part of the hotel, you have to wait several minutes after calling it. The room was very dated and in desperate need of redecoration. The bathroom doesn't have a fan so if you want to use the mirror after you've showered, you have no chance, as it takes ages for the steam to clear.
We didn't eat in the 'market place'. We had a look at it but decided to give it a miss, there's lots of great places within 5 mins of the hotel you can eat (highly recommend Panera bakery for breakfast). Monarchs bar was ok with reasonably priced beers and wine.
So if I return to Toronto, I'll be booking a smaller hotel where the guest is valued and not just a number.

We had a double room on the 24th floor facing Yonge St. We must have had a renovated room, because everything seemed to be in new condition. A huge surprise was the "Leaping Bunny" certified bath products! I was very excited to see this, and it is a huge plus on the part of the hotel. Using natural products, and products not used on animals is something that I am concerned about. Other than the air conditioner being a little loud (we could control the temperature, unlike people in other reviews) we had a great stay.

Stayed here for two nights with my boyfriend while we went to the Jay's game.
Room size was average and location was okay, but a little out of the way for where we needed to be.
Cleaning staff were great! Quick and very nice.

The main entrance lobby is bright. The serve yourself cafe fairly expensive and the bar very dark. The carpets throughout have seen some serious traffic - this is a very large Hotel! Still we had two double beds which were comfortable and the shower, bathroom clean and well stocked with toiletry items. We stayed two nights on arrival in Toronto and then left our bags (free of charge) at the hotel when we went of to Niagra Falls for one night
Allow plenty of time to travel around the city by taxi or coach as there are so man type road works it really slows progress

Ideally situated for the city centre.

This is a very large hotel and I'm sure many of the rooms are first class however, the room we occupied was very tired, particularly the bathroom.

That said, the breakfast we had was really first class.

The staff epitomised my view of employees in a service industry, the ones we met were all extremely pleasant and helpful.

I stayed at this hotel recently for 5 nights. The lobby has this putrid smell that we cannot understand - like bad perfume was used to mop all the floors or something. It literally made us feel nauseous every time we had to be there. Only 2-3 elevators seemed to be working so at 7:30-9am-ish try getting an elevator with hundreds of people staying there - it takes about 15 minutes LITERALLY. We had to rush our butts off to get to work on time because we weren't banking on elevators causing a 15 minutes delay EVERY DAY (we eventually left 15 minutes earlier but it's ridiculous that we'd even have to do that). It is clearly a cheap tourist hotel and not good at all for people in town on business. I asked for a fridge and never got one and a coffee in the café was $6. I wouldn't go back.
