I stayed at the Howard Johnson Toronto East motel for two nights as i needed accommodations in the region that were pet friendly. Service was very friendly, but the actual building has seen better days. My room was old, in need of renovations, had cigarette burn marks on furniture, but the A/C worked and the sheets were clean. So i will say this again, service quality of the personnel is great, but the owner should renovate the building asap. Strangely rear portion of the motel seems to be leased out to a limo/bus company that does servicing (painting, etc) of their fleet of cars and buses right in the parking lot. Very strange arrangement indeed. Wifi strength was very poor in my room, only worked when near certain wall, but not when sitting on the bed. I ended up using my LTE connection on my cell phone, but i realize that some out of town customers may not have that option. Breakfast is also very limited. Bagels and bread, butter and jam and some cereal and milk. No cold cuts, eggs, cheese.
this place should be demolished. it looks like it is in the middle of a demolishment. the first thing you notice is the absolutely shoddy area around the property. that should be a dead give away.
I made the huge mistake of not doing more research. I clicked on a link and only looked at one site's review. but if you simply look around more, there are countless warnings on review sites.
I'll list the good. a/c works. there is wifi. that's it.
on to the bad: first the shoddy area around the property. then you look at the property itself and it is falling apart. then you go to the totally unhelpful staff. then you go to the hallway that has a smoke smell in non smoking area. that's all before entering the room. which is not ready on time. you enter the room and it's a disaster. almost beyond description. a new smell of smoke hits you and you just want to run. then on to the wallpaper falling off. the carpet is stained up. the furniture is beat up. rust in the bathroom. the room looks absolutely unliveable. there is some type of construction going on with workers that look like they are unlicensed, uninsured and shady. the shady-ness of the entire experience is just gut wrenchingly awful. this place is filthy, disgusting and is a damn joke almost. how this place has the name howard johnson attached to it is beyond me. I know I am not getting myself into a 5 star hotel at Howard Johnson but bare minimal you would expect a place that is hospitable.
this is not a hospitable place, period.
This hotel was terrible. filthy and dirty. The pool area floor had scum floating on them and toilet paper was in bottom of pool, god only knows why. It was noisey and the cleaning people were very rude and unfriendly. The hallways and rooms smelled like wet musty unclean items. I stay at howard Johnsons when I can and will never stay at this one again...
