This is a wonderful small museum dedicated to ceramic art and china. Fantastic collections of china spanning time and place but also an important collection of modern ceramic artists which was impressive! Special temporary exhibit was phenomenal of Kathy Venter - so well done and displayed beautifully! Fabulous cafe with excellent food too!!

I am always impressed with the calibre of the exhibitions at the Gardiner. While the overall foot-print of the galleries are of a modest size, the work in them is provocative and reflective of human history in a way unique to ceramics.

I would also like to highly recommend a stop at the cafe, after you have been exhausted (in a good way) by the art. Great staff. Good food and wine. Art, food and wine. It doesn't get any better than that.

If you want a lovely museum, centrally located without many tourists, this is the place for you. Personally, I prefer the permanent exhibitions of chinese, japanese, european, meissen, etc. Nice building, nice staff, never crowded, classes on pottery downstairs. A total winner.

The Gardiner Museum (ceramics museum) is one of those often missed gems in Toronto. Located downtown and just opposite the imposing facade of the Royal Ontario Museum, the Gardiner is a lovely and airy building. It regularly hosts wonderful ceramics exhibits by artists of all types, all styles. There is also a lovely cafe / restaurant on the top floor, where the food is quite good, and the surroundings extremely pleasant, with light pouring in through the large windows. I absolutely love the Gardiner Museum, and make a stop there, regularly, when doing some shopping downtown. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves Art in all its forms, and then have a lovely light lunch at the cafe.
