Having never been to the museum, I did not know what to expect. It turned out to be surprisingly good and we spent about three hours and did not see all the exhibits. There was a docent-led tour of the special animal exhibit that lasted an hour which was especially interesting. She had great stories and knowledge which added greatly to the enjoyment. I also liked the porcelain from the various Chinese dynasties and the ability to compare that to the Japanese. It is definitely worth a visit.

The Gardiner give a fantastic overview of ceramics, their history, and geographic diversity. The rooms are small but have quite enough material to provide great information and many treats for the eye.
The exhibit of modern styles on the main floor is stupendous -- great variety, some are totally weird, all are interesting and worth a look.
The Animal Exhibit was great fun.
I could live in the Chinese/Japanese exhibits. There are three pieces that made my whole visit even more special.

On a recent visit to Toronto we visited the Gardiner museum of ceramics which is right across from the ROM. On Saturdays they have a drop in clay class for kids and adults where you can try wheel thrown pottery or just mold the clay yourself. You then have the opportunity to have it fired and pick up your creation a week later. The museum itself has some interesting exhibits which explored while waiting for the class to start. They also offer activities for children for free which is fun for the kids.

We had my daughter's wedding there last week end and we ere more than pleased. The service itself was tasteful and personal. The cocktail hour was well organized. The canapés were delicious and plentiful and the champagne was readily available. The wait staff were always present but unobtrusive. The dinner venue was set up exactly as my daughter and her husband had requested. The dinner wars absolutely wonderful. The service was such that everyone at each table was served at the same time. The view was also lovely which looks out directly onto the ROM. We were also given free access to the museum itself for the evening.
There was not one person there that did not come and tell us that it was the best wedding they had attended...thanks to the gorgeous venue and excellent dinner thanks to Jamie Kennedy.
I highly recommend this venue for any occasion but especially a wedding. You will have lovely lasting memories.

Did not know what to expect when entering. The staff was very helpful. The collection is great. The sculptures on the third floor are interesting. The downside is not much explanations about the pieces, other than the title. It is more of what we see is what we get.
