“Really on GARBAGE DAY?”
Reviewed 9 August 2010

First off this walking tour took us to places that seemed sketchy at best, and on top of that we were taken on garbage day, so the streets were littered with garbage! The places we visited might have been historical but I would not have dared walked there myself for fear of getting robbed or worse. There may have been a genuine feeling of wanting to show history but when the tour guide calls the endless and massive amounts of graffiti as "urban art" and talks about how great it is then you lose me fast.

Thanks for your feedback. A large part of what the Kensington Market and Chinatown Urban Adventure is about is taking guests off the beaten path, deeper into the neighbourhoods than most tourists would go in an effort to provide a unique tour experience and to showcase local culture. At no time are any of our guests in danger or at risk. We take a few steps into alleys to show legal graffiti mural art sponsored by the Mayor's office and supported by the Toronto Police Service and to contrast it with the illegal graffiti writing and vandalism. Such art is an important part of the urban landscape. It is unfortunate that garbage collection was happening during your trip with us. It is a frequent event, especially downtown where you were touring, what with the high concentration of restaurants in the area. It is nearly impossible to work every tour to avoid garbage collection. We are sorry your own personal experience was not as enjoyable as the others who have left reviews of the same tour.
