Owner description: Mackenzie House is the restored home of William Lyon Mackenzie, Toronto's first Mayor, a radical journalist and publisher, and leader of the Rebellion of 1837 in Upper Canada. This house was given to Mackenzie by friends and supporters, when he retired from public life, and in recognition of his many years of serving the community. Mackenzie House is one of 10 historic museums operated by the City of Toronto. Toronto's Historic Sites engage visitors, inspire passion, challenge ideas and connect the past to the present.

“Terrific experience! Marvelous staff!”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

Mackenzie House is one of the best museums I have ever visited. The visit to the House is great and it allows you to learn a lot about the epoch and about Mackenzie's life. The printing house they have is fantastic and you get to know a lot about printing and its importance in history.

Anyway, the most outstanding value of the House is the staff: they are welcoming, helpful and show their great knowledge during the 45min tour, included in the price.

I had the luck to be toured by Bruce, one of the best museum guides I have ever had: not only was he informative but he spend time answering my many questions and doubts about Mackenzie, Toronto, Canada, printing and other topics. You could tell that he was really into it!!

We enjoyed the old Scottish carols and meals made by old recipes. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic. Absolutely worth to visit.

“Enthusiastic & knowledgeable staff”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

Had a lot of fun at this historic museum. The staff were really enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They had lots of stories about the Mackenzie family and were open to quesitons throughout the tour. It is not as big or luxurious as Casa Loma, but my partner and I were entertained the whole time and learned a lot about Toronto's settler history.

“A Great Place to Visit”
Reviewed 21 December 2013

If you want learn about the history of newspaper printing, this is the place. I was here with my grandson today, and he had the chance to actually use the printing machines. Mr MacKenzie was the first mayor of Toronto and the tour of his home was a great place to learn Canadian history. We sampled cider and cookies there and really enjoyed our.visit.

“Interesting site - wonderful staff”
Reviewed 18 December 2013

An interesting way to learn a bit about Toronto and one of its famous citizens. A great staff who not only knew about their subject but obviously love history and their city. The tour includes not only the home but also a print shop which was very interesting.
