“Good location but shows its age”
Reviewed 25 May 2012

The hotel is very well located but you can tell it is old. Do not expect a great view from the room. There was a big stain on one of the chairs and the TV had been unplugged for some reason (it took me a few minutes to figure out why the TV was not working). Otherwise, we don't have anything wrong to say about the room or the staff. Given that we paid a very cheap rate through Priceline, we can't really complain.

I would like to share my personal experience with people who plan to stay or have stayed at this hotel as it truly a great place to book for Toronto.

Location is in the heart of the city and the subway line is accessible from the hotel elevators practically.

The rooms are always clean and very modern with a great plasma tv if you have a few moments to just lay back and relax.

I stay here approx. 140 days a year and consider it a second home, and this would not be possible without acknowledging some of the staff members i.e.

The people from registration ( Carol-Lynn Jones ) and team are always helpful and check in is very quick, to Mark Friend who manages the area and will always go the extra mile to facilitate your stay.

Plan to enjoy a relaxing moment in the bar area, well you will meet the nicest bartender in the business ( Alivia Capone )...

And the concierge team is always serving excellent food with great service.

I also want to mention many other people i.e. Elizabeth Aguila, Carlos Nalli Mesfin who are also on this team and help customers with a smile and open arms.

Believe me selecting this hotel as your choice while staying in Toronto is one you will enjoy thanks to the people, accessibility to the city and hotel facility itself.

Room Tip: In my humble opinion there is not a bad room location within this hotel.

With the rest of the hotels in the area costing $400+ a night, the Marriott is actually a reasonabnly good value for the neighbourhood. The rooms are quite spacious and very comfortable, and the bathrooms, while small, are nicely appointed. I also like how the hotel is quite quiet given that it is on a noisy street, with most rooms facing an interior "courtyard", so don't expect a terrific view here. But it's in a great location, right next to my office, and close to all the wonderful things that Toronto has to offer.

Room Tip: 6th floor is the concierge floor.

I stayed in a 4 person, two queens bedroom. First off, the rooms are huge. The living room is just as impressive. The bathroom could be a bit bigger, but not an issue. The only issue was parking was a bit of a problem, and walking to your car is an issue, especially if in the cold. But overall, can't complain, nice location too.

I booked this hotel for my business trip. This hotel is in the downtown area and it is very closed to the subway.

Staff in the hotel were all friendly, helpful and efficient.

Buffet breakfast was very average. Therefore I only tried their breakfast for one morning, then I went outside to have breakfast in the following days. Many good cafe and restaurants or even food court around that area. Also the hotel is not far from those posh shopping area!

I enjoyed my stay in here and I would book this hotel again!

One drawback was no swimming pool in this hotel, but they had a quality gym room.

Great rooms, clean and comfortable beds like you would expect from any Marriott. The service at the restaurant needs improvement though.

Bartender would not honour my voucher for restaurant food/drinks. I wouldn't have minded, except he said it with a smug condescending attitude like I should have known better. "It's right there in the fine print," he said, and didn't apologize for the inconvenience. I wouldn't have paid $10 per drink at their bar for such poor service if I knew that the voucher wasn't going to work. I used it the next morning for breakfast, and couldn't believe I paid $25 for a mediocre rendition of Eggs Benedict and a glass of Coke. I could have paid less for a better meal at another restaurant, even accounting for the voucher.

Really, I don't mind paying more at a hotel for service, but if you're going to charge that much you expect a better experience. The internet is not included in the hotel room either.

Thank you for your feedback, it is through comments like yours that we are able to improve your experience , there is no excuse for poor service in the Marriott, please ensure that this will be addressed.

The eggs benedict comes with your choice of rich smoked east coast salmon spinach or back bacon, beautiful soft poached egg hollandaise sauce and slow roasted tomato , priced at $19 it is line with our competition, this should be the very best of quality, if on this occasion it did not meet your expectation I truly apologise, I am personally disappointed, we have so much great feedback from our regular customers on this dish .

I hope that this incident didn’t detract you form the great location creative menus and wonderful associates that are here to look after you.

This Marriott is modern, clean and well-run. Its rooms are large and well-appointed. The staff is not only efficient and professional but seemed to genuinely enjoy their work and helping customers. Its location near the Don Valley Parkway, atop the subway, and convenient by car to all areas of the downtown makes it ideal for business or touring.

You may wish to note that valet parking is an extra charge. There is lots of public parking garages nearby, but not nearly as convenient. Internet is also extra, at almost $14 / Day with tax. This is probably more than you'd want to pay if you just need to check the hours of tourist attractions and personal email, but if you are a business traveler who needs to be online with the office or customers, the bandwidth is excellent and the flat daily rate is a good deal.

Being a downtown and relatively low-rise building, there is traffic noise in some rooms. However, none of my party was disturbed by it; traffic is low at night, and noticeable only when a heavy vehicle goes by, maybe twice an hour.

I would certainly use the Downtown Marriott again if making a similar trip.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to complete a Trip Advisor Response, and for your positive feedback. We are proud of our very large gym which is quite a novalty to have so much space to work out in a Downtown Hotel however, I do sympathize with the drawback of no swimming pool.
We are happy to make arrangements for our guests to use swimming pools closeby should you wish which we can arrange at the Front Desk or Concierge.

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us,

Regards
