“Still a Great Spot on Oz But Service Not Up to Quality of Food”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

Had another great tasting meal at one of ossington's best restaurants. Sadly they need to really improve the service.

The food is delicious. We started with the harvest which gives you a variety of small appetizers to share. We had two cheeses, the gravlox, the rillette and the sausage. All superb. Several us had either the duck or the pickerel. The duck breast was perfectly cooked to a medium. The pickerel was equally as good.

Decent enough wine list. Most of the stuff available at the LCBO with the exception of a few local ontario wines. Wine was highly marked up.

The dessert was also stupendous. Chocolate caramel granache tort.

However, they really need to work on the service. Totally understaffed for a busy night and no excuse at these prices or at a joint this high end. Our waitress was totally delightful and really knew her stuff.

However when the restaurant got a little bit busy became unacceptable. Took about 10 minutes to get some salt. Water glass never filled without a request for more water. Our waitress literally disappeared for 15 minutes towards the end of the night when she went to take an order from a large party. Asked several of the other employees for the bill to no avail.

Great food. Great decor. Great vibe. But need more staff.

“Cooked to perfection”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

We went for a family meal on Wednesday and the food was amazing. The hanger steaks were pure melt in the mouth. My son's lamb was delicious. We had to take the lobster mac and cheese home. The harvest platter to start was to die for. Great fun and great atmosphere - and a Manc behind the bar!

“Great Brunch”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

We had steak n eggs (asked for an extra egg) and eggs benny (asked for it to be on a croissant).
Both came out perfectly plated and were delicious!
Nice and sunny atmosphere by the front window.

“Poor service ruined otherwise delicious food”
Reviewed 25 March 2013

This restaurant was extremely disappointing. I chose Boehmer because of its location in a great neighbourhood, and the fact that it had availability. The food is good but over-priced. They also charge for bread which, at their prices, seems cheap.

The decor of the restaurant is fantastic, but it is extremely loud. We were a bigger group of 10 and were seated in the private room (which is lovely). Unfortunately we were often forgotten. In fact the service failed at every turn. It took us over an hour to get bread, and our server seemed annoyed with us the whole time. We would also have liked to order more wine but were never given an opportunity.

Although our food was good, I would say it isn't worth the price or the service. There is other food on Ossington which is just as good (or better), which is priced more reasonably and which is delivered in a more friendly atmosphere.

In addition, we were celebrating the birthday of a friend who now lives in the Netherlands. Someone brought cupcakes. We were told that the restaurant would charge us $2 a person to eat them (which was apparently a discount). I have never experienced this before and I have eaten in a lot of restaurants in a lot of different countries.

Given the service, we would likely not have tipped as generously as we would normally. We are a professional group, many of whom worked in the service industry during university. We generally tip well unless the service is truly terrible. Unfortunately, the restaurant added an 18% gratuity to our bill without telling us. Our server also stood over us while we tried to work out the bill which was frankly uncomfortable and unnecessary. Although I understand a server may have a bad night or be in a bad mood (it happens to everyone), I feel that bad night should not translate into an automatic 18% tip.

At the end of the night I tried to speak with someone about our experience and although the owner was in the restaurant was told no one could speak to me about it then. I will not be returning.

“Nice Canadiana menu”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

A continued star in the recently trendy area of the "Ossington Strip", the menu leans towards local fare with a bit of fusion influence. The scallops and lobster with a mild Thai curry is excellent as is the Venison Tartare. Quail is also an excellent appetizer choice. I really like the Harvest section of the menu that allows a selection of hors d'ouvres - 1 for $8 (I think), 2 for $15, etc. The olives are just too delicious to describe - we order them EVERY time. Echoing another review, the cocktails are excellent - maybe the best Sidecar I've had in years. The only thing to improve is the wine listing. It is small and of medium quality. I'd definitely recommend expanding it and adding a few higher end selections.
