“Wonderful relaxing stay at A Seaton Dream!”
Reviewed 1 August 2012

We recently stayed at A Seaton Dream and it was the perfect start to our Canada tour. The hosts are so welcoming and helpful; we were made to feel at home from the moment we arrived!

We had the East Wing room; we loved having the balcony for some outdoor space to relax. And the breakfasts are so good!!!

The location is great for local bars/restaurants and also downtown Toronto. The list of places to eat etc. from Jamie on arrival was a real help, especially after a long haul flight. Without a doubt we will stay here again when we next visit Toronto and I highly recommend others to do so.

Thank you Jamie and Alan for our wonderful stay and also for the maple syrup.... it made it back to England in one piece!

Room Tip: Choose the East Wing if you want some outdoor space to relax

If you are looking for a quiet B&B with a gracious host who makes excellent breakfasts, this is the place. The neighborhood is within walking distance to downtown, shopping and public transportation but far enough away to provide a quiet and safe environment during your stay. The room was comfortable and clean and there was a balcony leading out back on which to enjoy the evening. Jamie will prepare some great breakfasts which you would only find in a five star hotel! Alan and Jamie provided valuable information about exploring Toronto which is truly a lovely city. I would definitely return to this B&B the next time I am in Toronto.

Where do we start! We came here for a week in May and couldn't have enjoyed our stay more! Jamie and Alan are just amazing, the most lovely hosts who made us feel so at home we didn't want to leave. They were great on advising where to eat and visit and couldn't have done enough for us. The breakfasts were varied, filling and totally delicious and the house is just lovely. Our spotless room was so cosy and we chose the room with the jet tub bath which was a real treat! The B&B is on a really pretty street which is within walking distance to downtown Toronto.
We really hope we get chance to visit this fantastic B&B again!

Jamie and Alan made our stay so amazingly enjoyable that I am a B&B convert. I have rarely enjoyed staying in someone else's house but enjoyed this very much. Jamie cooked some of the best breakfast foods I have ever had. Everything from pancakes, to omelets, to crumpets. Again I cannot recommend this place enough. My wife adds that they made every effort to accommodate us and help us feel at home!

My 13 year old son and I were lucky enough to stay in this lovely B&B at the end of October, early November this year. Not only were we able to experience the wonder that is a Canadian Halloween (where all the houses in this pretty street were decked out in gothic splendor, ready to welcome the groups of mini ghosts, goblins, pirates and princesses), but we were also lucky to be there during an unseasonably warm spell - November in Toronto and nearly 20 degrees! What's that about!
We had the best time exploring this lovely city and (with the assistance of our delightful hosts) even finding cool places that interested the fussy 13 year old! The house is so central, that we were within walking distance of many of the City's attractions.
Would I recommend staying at this B&B? Absolutely - it was delightful. Rooms are so clean, uncluttered and spacious and the on suite bathrooms are gorgeous. The breakfasts were sublime (Jamie prides himself on never making the same breakfast for the same guest twice! That is almost above and beyond!)

A Seaton Dream is one of the finest B&Bs I have ever enjoyed. The property is very well appointed and features a garden oasis in the back yard. Despite being over a century old, the B&B has been renovated with impressive modern amenities. Yet, the house still retains the charm of yesteryear.

Positives include:

- the wonderful host, Allan, who is gracious, warm, and charming. He was kind enough to give us extra time on the day of our departure
- hearty gourmet breakfast was tummy-filling and perfect start to the day
- the bathroom in our room, The West Wing, was outstanding. The sink and huge bathtub are stunning. Nice towels and lighting too, and we appreciated the tasteful built-in shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispenser.
- decor and aesthetics are first rate
- location: Cabbaggetown is one of Toronto's oldest and most charming neighbourhoods. Seaton St is classic Cabbagetown; rows of Victorian era, wooden porch homes and townhouses on a quiet, tree-lined oasis

Negatives include:

-Noise bleed. This is an old house and not a hotel, so noise easily travels up through the walls and floors. We could easily hear conversations in the living room, and the stairwell is also noisy, due to the echoes off the lovely wooden floors. A floor runner would help alleviate some of this ambient noise.

-Location: the B&B is actually located on the southwest fringe of Cabbagetown; meaning that it is bordered on the west by Regent Park, by the south by Moss Park, and by the north by St James Town, all primarily populated by low-income residents living in social housing. There are many homeless people congregating in these neighbourhoods. Guests from other large cities (Montreal, Chicago, New York, etc.) will barely blink an eye but I think it is important to honestly point out that the 15-minute walk from the B&B to Dundas Square/Yonge Street is quite dodgy, especially at night.

Overall this is an impressive B&B and I do certainly recommend it, despite some of the negatives I mentioned above. The highlights definitely outrank the lowlights and with good sense and the right planning you would be hard-pressed to find a better B&B in Toronto.
