Charming B&B with comfortable rooms and incredibly accommodating hosts. Breakfasts are delicious and the interaction with other guests is great. Highly recommend this oasis of relaxation and charm. The beds are incredibly comfortable and provide a restful sleep.

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at a Seaton Dream in Toronto this summer. Jamie and Alan are the loveliest people, and both they and their elegant, inviting oasis made me feel comfortable and happy during my stay there. The attention to detail throughout their sophisticated yet gracious home was outstanding, and I loved Jamie’s amazing breakfasts. I certainly want to go back to this beautiful little reverie in Toronto! Thanks a million, Jamie and Alan!

Room Tip: East wing room had a lovely and relaxing private balcony overlooking the back garden and a wonderful...

We stayed with Jamie and Alan for three nights on our recent trip across Canada. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in this beautiful home. On arrival, Jamie was very welcoming, helping us with our bags and immediately offering assistance on sightseeing, Toronto tips and asking about dietary requirements. Jamie's cooked breakfasts were really lovely: every morning we were given something different, but all were tasty and quite different to what we would normally eat at home. We only met Alan briefly, but Jamie is an excellent host: he is as attentive as you want him to be and goes out of his way to help. He booked us places on a day tour to Niagara Falls (wonderful) and arranged a cab to the train station. He showed us the best routes around the city and seemed genuinely curious about what we thought of Toronto (hugely under-rated in our view). The B&B is a lovely Victorian house in a historic part of Toronto (Seaton St., Cabbagetown – originally home to Famine-era immigrants from Ireland in the 1840s), just 10-15 minutes’ walk to the city centre and about the same distance to the gay village. We fell in love with Seaton St. As others have pointed out, East Toronto is a very mixed area and is definitely in a process of gentrification. We never felt threatened or unsafe, and we walked everywhere, even late at night. Having said that, visitors need to be aware that there are several homeless shelters close by, and quite a lot of hobos and drunks wandering around the place, so if you are of a nervous disposition, you would probably be best staying elsewhere, unless you want to take cabs everywhere. The room (West Wing for us) was well-appointed with a luxurious en suite, a huge bed, lovely rosewood flooring, excellent air conditioning, and a great view of Seaton St – and what a beautiful tree-lined street it is! We are both big fans of period architecture, and Seaton St has many gorgeous Victorian homes dotted along it. The house itself is spotless and tasteful, and there is a cute little outdoor patio to the rear and a veranda to the front. Overall, a great experience from hosts who know how to run a good B&B. If we ever return to Toronto, we will definitely stay in A Seaton Dream once again.

I hope it's not too late to express my appreciation for the warm welcome we received in June of 2012 when passing through when moving from Europe back to the States with our baby daughter. Jamie was truly a kind host, making us feel very comfortable. We had a pack play crib for our baby and could buy takeout and feed her at the dining table downstairs, which was great. The location was very central to everything. The neighborhood was 'gentrifying' but felt safe. Parking was easy on the street. But most of all, Jamie was extremely nice and kind to us and our baby, which made our stay even more memorable. Thank you Jamie and sorry for taking so long to write this review!

Last weekend my boyfriend and I spent the weekend in Toronto for the first time. We chose Seaton Dream as our B&B because we like the intimate and personal feel of a B&B; but we do value a separate bathroom. Immediately upon arrival we felt welcome. The rooms were clean and Jaimie - our host was very spontaneous and enthousiastic. He also got us a map, gave advice on places to go, etc. Plus his breakfast (a HOT one; different every morning and we could make requests!) was amazing! Make sure to ask for his maple syrup pancakes with almonds and fruit - delicious! Furthermore.. our beds were made everyday and especially the bathtub in the Master bedroom was very relaxing. A great place to come back to after a day of intense sightseeing/eating/walking/shopping.

A Seaton Dream also has a really good location. A lot of places are walkable, but I would also recommend to take the city bike (bixi?) you have various locations where you can pick up and park a bike throughout the city and it really makes all the attractions be within reach from a Seaton Dream.

The price is a little bit higher than some other B&B's, but taking into account the location, the great hot breakfast, the private bathroom, free parking (if you stay for at least three days) and the great service - it is definitely worth it!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights on a recent trip to Toronto. Our room was cozy and light, breakfast every day was delicious and we could walk easily to most parts of the city. Jamie and Alan were perfect hosts and made us feel really welcome- it was like staying with old friends :-) We were sad to leave and would definitely go back if we were ever in Toronto again.

I really debated between giving A Seaton Dream four or three stars here, but ultimately docked the extra. My husband and I arrived late on a Friday night, rang the doorbell and announced that we were there to check in, and heard "Uh, you are?" Not exactly a reassuring welcome!

The room that we had booked was occupied (from the familiarity of the guests when they came down the next morning, I suspect that they were friends of the owners rather then guests), so the downstairs room was quickly made up for us while we waited. I understand that mistakes can happen and things can be overlooked, but I feel like this event sort of set the mood with our hosts for the weekend. To their credit, we did receive apologies and a deep discount on the room price for that night, and that was made clear from the outset.

We had one night in the "Retreat" basement room. Nice, but still a basement with one small window located under the porch. The West Wing room upstairs was lovely and well worth the extra money. Roomy and sunny, with a comfortable bed and plenty of room for our things both in the bedroom and the ensuite bathroom. The bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub, which I made good use of. One complaint: the tub is deep and set back a ways. This made it rather difficult--and dangerous--to climb in and out of. My husband and I are both tall and only in our 30s, but we felt like there would be a benefit of some type of railing or stool or something to made the transition easier. Older people or those with any type of lower limb joint problems might find the tub transfer close to impossible. Additionally, noise carries quite a bit to this room; I could clearly hear conversations in the lounge while soaking in my bath and while in the bedroom.

The location was okay, but it was a bit of a walk to public transit or most shops/restaurants, though there are a one or two cafes within about four blocks. In nice weather, this would not be a problem; but if you're visiting in the winter or during a downpour, it does take close to 10 minutes to get to the nearest streetcar stop. We had no problem with the "seedy" district many others have alluded too--no, the area is not completely gentrified and yes, we were panhandled a few times. You're in a city.

Ultimately, what we were most disappointed in was the lack of a personal touch. In many ways, I don't feel like there was any service beyond that you might get in a large hotel. Despite staying three nights, I didn't know the name of either owner until I came back here and saw them in other reviews. We were offered a map of the city only after specifically asking for one. But even that did not come with an explanation of the nearest streetcar or subway (or explanation that on the weekends, two adults can ride together on one day pass which could only be purchased at a subway stop--luckily, a friend had given us that info in advance). Never once were we given any advice regarding places to visit, even the nearby--and lovely--Allan Gardens. While the breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented, we were never told what they were. They were simply placed before us without explanation.

Ultimately, I think this could be a really nice place to stay, but a bit more interaction with our hosts (a primer on local transit; suggestions for sights, including some "local" type recommendations; and an brief "today for breakfast, I made you an omelet with spinach, onion, and sausage--enjoy") would have made all the difference in the world. After all, we stay at B&Bs FOR that type of interaction.

Room Tip: The Retreat is a basement room--private and quiet, but ultimately, a basement. The West Wing is fill...

We just wanted to take a moment to say we feel really badly about this guest's experience. They were such a lovely couple and to be totally honest we messed up.

When the guest says we answered the doorbell at 10pm to say they were here and we responded "uh you are" I have no doubt they were right. I can't recall this happening in our 13 years of running the B&B but we managed to mess up the reservation and were just getting into bed when the doorbell rang. This was 100% our fault.

As we had mixed up the reservation the room they were booked into was not available and we quickly scrambled to do up the Retreat room for them for the first night. In the quick rush to make sure the guests were set up as quickly as possible it is quite possible we failed to introduce ourselves (and the next morning we would have assumed that we had because we always do).

The other guests mentioned in the review were actually guests, but the familiarity of discussion they referred to would have been because they were guests who feel like friends. We were their first "stop" when they arrived in Canada ten years ago and whenever they are back in Toronto they book into the B&B with us. This time they brought their eight year old son along. He hadn't even been born when they first started staying with us and it was a delight to have the whole family there.

Nonetheless we must not have paid sufficient attention to this wonderful couple and for that we are truly sorry.

There is actually a streetcar stop only a two minute walk away (half a block). Once again though...if the guests didn't know that it existed the fault lies with us.

We do hope they will consider giving us another shot if they ever return to Toronto. We would love the opportunity to make it up to them.

Jamie and Alan
