“Beautiful, calm and clean”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

I really hate staying at hotels for work, but the Shangri-La was beautiful-- it's a haven in the heart of bustling Toronto. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the decor is simply elegant. The bed was comfortable, but the comforter was too heavy and I had to ask for a sheet to use instead. There was some street noise that could be heard through the windows, but when you're in the downtown of a metropolis, that's difficult to avoid. I did have a problem adjusting the thermostat, as I would have preferred it cooler in my room, but I didn't call down to ask for help, so there may have been an easy solution. I ate food catered by the hotel throughout the three days I stayed there for a business meeting and it was absolutely delicious.

Stayed for two nights on a business trip. LOVED the hotel. First class service from start to finish. Beautiful hotel, loby, rooms. Ate at Momufuku 4 times (I'm a foodie) and loved each item I had. Room is very well equipped, Ipad, Nespresso machine...High quality amenities in washroom. Just positives. Great place to stay in Toronto...

My husband and I and our adult daughter and partner came for a weekend getaway in our home city. Our plan; use the hotel as our base to walk, sip, dine and take in some galleries and music. What we did instead; dined at the hotels famed Momofuku, visited in the lovely luxurious lobby bar enjoying love house music, swam and spa'd away a rainy afternoon in the health club, ducked out to the Town Crier Pub for a burger and took in a movie. And buried our noses in our novels in our perfectly appointed suite. This is destined to become and annual event! Bravo Shangri-la. Perfection.

First time at this hotel, the experience from check in to check out was fantastic. The staff were super service oriented, pleasant and always smiling. Even in rush hour the valet car service was fast. The scrambled eggs in Bosk were amazing, so often in hotels they are cooked like an omelette, at Bosk they were creamy and properly scrambled. I will stay for sure again on my next visit in favour of my ususal choice of business hotel.

A great hotel good location, the service is so good it's scary. One complaint one small bar of soap in our bathroom to split between the shower, tub, and sink. It is a very trendy spot so the lobby is a great place to have a cocktail and people watch.

This is a farily new hotel in Toronto, right opposite the Opera House. This is our second stay here and we love it. The location is very convenient. The service is impeccable and the staff seem genuinely to want to make your stay as pleasant as possible. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite, with a great view up University Avenue. Bosk restaurant is a little pretentious - not quite sure why we need our water poured from what look like lab vessels - but, well, this is Toronto.

The staff are all very smartly turned out and carry themselves well; there's obviously someone doing a good training job.

I thoroughly recommend this hotel; it's where we'll stay from now on, on our frequent visits to Toronto.

Room Tip: Rooms on the corner looking up University have a great view and the soundproofing is excellent.

I stayed here with my husband for two nights this week while I accompanied him to a conference. We had an Executive room which was quite nice and was a comfortable size. Overall, we found the staff to be extremely friendly, nice and helpful and they seem to be proud of where they work. We ate at Bosk for lunch one day and the food and service was very good. Generally, we found that it lacked the attention to detail to truly be considered five star relative to their competitors. Often it is the accumulation of nailing the "little things" that make the difference and will surely stand out to those who stay in high end hotels often. For example, in the bathroom there was only one bar of soap that you had to use for your hands at the sink and in the shower (only 50% of the market has converted to liquid body soap) providing a second one would have been nice. Also, they brought white wine instead of a Malbec as requested for my room service, the sheets were not great quality and I could feel the balls from being washed so many times, there was no featherbed. Also, the room cleaner did not clean up the countertops well (streaks) and did not organize/fold our personal items such as baby blankets. Most 5 star hotels will fold these items for you so the room feels more organized when you walk in. Additionally, at dinner one night at the conference they had to put down another place setting for me and they just gave me a plate with cutlery on it and left me to set the table and they failed to provide the bread plate and glassware. I had to get up and ask them for this and when the brought it they did not fill up the champagne glass so I missed the toast. again, these are little things that make a place 5 star.
