“A unique and rewarding stay”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Absolutely fabulous; Toronto’s oldest continuously-run hotel is a must-visit. It’s a well-known feature of this hotel that each room is entirely individual; each one designed by a different artist or designer. I stayed in two rooms: #315 “The Today Room”, and #415 “Snapshot”. Neither room was ‘large’ by today’s average standards, of course, but every effort has been made here to make the most of each space. The Today Room blends the bare bones of the hotels brick walls with light hues and an impressive black and white ceramic mosaic in the bathroom. In one corner is a re-upholstered captain’s chair that is reminiscent of a dentist chair, but suits the room very well. The cramped desk area is the only aspect that detracts from an otherwise comfortable room. The Snapshot room features an inventive full-wall collage of abstract, fall-colour photography. Both rooms come with an Android tablet for guest use. The rest of the hotel oozes with character, with expansive creaky old hallways, art displayed everywhere, and an ancient elevator. Breakfast at the café was really good, and not too expensive. Parking is right across the street, but is very limited. Truly a unique and rewarding experience; one I look forward to repeating soon. 10/10

This place is GREAT. I wouldn't recommend it for families or people looking to go to bed early, but as a solo traveller I wish I could stay forever. Full of interesting art and people, beautiful rooms, friendly and very accommodating staff, all in a wonderful, walkable neighbourhood. It was a tad noisy due to the thin walls and hardwood floors (was woken up by neighbours both mornings), but generally it was AWESOME. The first room I was placed in was very small and loud, being right above queen st, but after a quick chat with the front desk I was moved to a room across the hall that was much more spacious and also much quieter. They also happily arranged a late check-out for me on my final day.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel for a quieter stay.

The Melody Bar has a delightful bartender by the name of Alicia there, very knowledgeable about her cocktails and suggested a great one for me - Paper Plane - not too sweet, not too sour and has a great kick afterwards. Staff are friendly, will answer any question you pose and are very attentive. We were a little concerned knowing that George Stromboupoulos was having his going away party in the event room on the main floor but it wasn't really intrusive being on the third floor. Each floor features some artwork, there is limited parking available (if you go there pay for the parking, it is just across the street). The menu in the Melody Bar was sparse but I believe it was because of the event, they didn't have their regular menu out? Bed was comfortable, enough hot water in the morning for 2 showers, clean and dust free. I didn't care about the size of the room, we just slept there. Perfect location to walk to the Sheridan Illustration Show at 99 Sudbury that night. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: The hotel posts room plans on their website so you can choose the less busy street, Gladstone and ho...

Clean, comfortable and full of art! Love this place & highly recommend to any travelers. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The beds are VERY comfortable. Each room is unique, designed by different artists/designers. I have stayed several times and each room was very cool. Check out their website for photos. FOOD AND COCKTAILS are also great.

it was fairly clean and in a cool space, but man were those rooms small. the full sized bed fit pretty much wall to wall and i hope to have a larger coffin than the shower in the bathroom. so tiny! definiately not worth the cost. i think i'd have been more comfortable in a howard johnson.

It's exactly what you'd expect and want in the heart of Toronto's creative community, Queen Street West! If you're usual hotel experience are the national chains, you're in for a big surprise but step out and try this place next time you're in TO. A truly boutique hotel, each of the 37 rooms are individually designed, decorated and furnished by artists. And the room is only part of the hotel's charm! An elevator that is still requires the desk clerk to operate ("just call down and we'll come up and get you"), great auxiliary rooms for food and entertainment and a staff that is pleasant and so willing to make your stay comfortable.

Room Tip: Each one is uniquely different so if you're returning, be sure to try a different one!

A romantic night away from home, a mere 45 mins street car ride across town.

Very neat, tidy, comfortable and relaxing. However this is a bit of an artists dream. Not only is the historic building fully renovated, but has been taken over by the local artist community. Art abounds here on every wall and every room. Each of the guest rooms has a different theme. Ours was "today". Even if I turned my head sideways through narrow eye lids I still wonder what "today" means. I guess it falls into a similar failing of mine around interpretive dance.

The bed was comfy, the sleep was heavenly, the company great, the surroundings nostalgic elegance, our room with added chic.

Recommend to anyone.
