Owner description: The Princess of Wales Theatre is a 2000-seat playhouse built by the father and son producing team of David and Ed Mirvish, just a block away from their historic Royal Alexandra Theatre. The Princess of Wales is the first privately owned and financed theatre built in Canada since 1907 - and the first anywhere in North America in over 30 years. Construction began on August 6, 1991, and the building opened to the public with the musical Miss Saigon on May 26, 1993.The theatre was built with maximum flexibility in mind. Its stage is one of the widest and deepest in North America - large enough to accommodate the most spectacular theatrical productions - and its technical facilities are state-of-the-art.

This is a beautiful theatre, and we recently saw Les Miserables, but I was surprised to see so many people buying popcorn and bringing it into the theatre! It was distracting during the performance to hear people crunching and digging, and the smell was everywhere. Please, POW, drop the corn and let people have a quiet snack, it's not the movies!

The Princess of Wales is a beautiful 20 year old theatre that seats 2,000 people and hosts a range of Broadway productions. It is a beautiful space with excellent views from most seats. Les Mis was its most recent production, and it was sensational. The staff here are helpful, courteous, and experienced in doing a great job.

While I am not sure of the date, this theatre is slated to be bulldozed to make room for more condos. While these condos are going to be massive, designed by Frank Ghery, and house an art gallery or two (probably in the lobby near the elevators and water fountains), it is sad to see this place go. It also probably says something about Toronto's capacity (as the 4th largest city in North America) to support musical theatre.

That being said, the place is worth seeing before it becomes the site of more condos. Maybe the last act before the wrecking ball can be a tragedy and the condos that replace the Princess can break the Toronto mold by at least being architecturally interesting.

Saw many different performances here. Nice theatre, but it all depends on the show. The staff is very courteous and helpful, but the snacks are a little over priced. But what can you do?

Great show and our first visit to this theatre. We had orchestra seating and the seats were excellent. Bought some memorabilia and took lots of pictures outside the venue.

We took in the extended Toronto production of Les Miserables and got to enjoy the rich surroundings of the Princess of Wales Theatre.
A nice clean washroom, with a very funky public sink in the Ladies Room (it's like a long rainshower).
Seats are comfy and they serve ice cream bars (in the theatre) at intermission. The smell of popcorn, when we first walked in had me temporarily confused that we had walked into a movie theatre!
It truly was a wonderful experience and we so enjoy going to the theatre at the Princess of Wales.
