“an excellent experience”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

We stayed here for 6 nights and can't think of any problems - only praise !!!

The location is excellent if you are on vacation as so many of the "must see" attractions are within an easy walk or can be reached by public transport. We used taxis on a couple of occasions as we were also here for our son's wedding and the hotel arranged for these with no problems - we just had to tell the doorman what was needed.

From experience, city centre hotels can feel impersonal but here the front desk staff were friendly and helpful and yet still managed to work efficiently. They bothered to ask how our day had been or if we needed anything.

The overall standard of cleanliness and upkeep were excellent both in our room and in the public areas. We made use of the kitchen area in the room during our stay on several occasions - they provide sufficient kitchen pots and pans for basic needs but just check the cupboards beforehand to make sure there is all you will need. We had a studio suite and found the size and the general layout to be good.

Breakfast was super - they even provided soya milk - so rare for many hotels. I really appreciated this. There was a good choice of cereals, breads, pastries, yogurts and fruit as well as cooked items that changed each day. Despite the hotel being very full we had no problems getting a table each morning. The whole "breakfast experience" was run with efficiency and cooperation. The staff rapidly cleared tables and replenished the food and remained helpful and friendly throughout.

Parking here is expensive but we managed without a car which solved the problem. We did rent a car for a day trip to Niagara Falls but returned it out of hours so again didn't need to use the car parking here.

Stayed for two nights in mid September and have nothing but praise for the hotel. Room was large, clean and spacious with a fully integrated kitchen. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Located a stones throw from the CN Tower and Rogers Center in one direction and the Eaton Center is about a 20 minute walk in another direction.

Breakfast was included in the price with a wide selection including fruit, pastries, porridge and bacon, eggs, etc.

We had reserved 14 rooms for out of town guests for a wedding and also had arranged to have a brunch for our guest the next day. The location was fine for the wedding.
There were a number of issues for people trying to make reservations or getting confirmations on their reservations. A number of people called and were told that there were no rooms reserved for this wedding. I had to call and talk to the a co-ordinator to get this rectified on a number of occasions.
Room Service was very poor. People had to call number of times if a service was requested. In one room, a small child found a sleeping pill on the floor and was about to eat it. This was from a previous guest in that room. Cleaning the rooms could be improved.
I had order a brunch for Sunday morning for our out of town guests. The cost for the brunch was very expensive, even thought the room comes with a free breakfast. The brunch was late, the service was very poor, dishes, mugs, coffee and food ran out and nobody around to replenish these items. I had to search around or go down to the front desk to get someone to get to replace these items. There was not enough food for the number of people at the brunch. The quality of the food was poor.
I would not go back here again.

Unfortunately stayed at the Residence inn. Definitely not what we expected from a $250 hotel. Things started off ok. We checked in and went to our room. The heater was blowing cold air. Called down and they sent someone up right away. We went to the pool while they fixed the issue. Got in the hottub and noticed scum around the sides of the hottub. No big deal yet. Go back to the room and relaxed. Was looking for a sock and when I looked behind the nightstand by the bed to our horror found a condom wrapped - sick! called front desk. - this was about 10:30 PM and they said they would send someone up. 30 minutes later we leave the room and go out for the night. Come back at 3 AM and still a condom wrapper next to our bed! Called front desk again and they said they would send someone up. I said dont bother as it was 3AM and we just wanted to go to sleep, not have hotel staff in our room. Was leaving the room the next morning and seen someone - looked like manager from the cleaning staff or something. Explained the problem and she came in and said oh its just the wrapper. She then said that she was going to send housekeeping at 10:30 but we said not to bother which was completely wrong. When I explained that that happened at 3am she said there was no housekeeping at that time so it must have been when we called at 10:30. We went down to check out and I asked to speak with the manager. The manager took us into the lounge area so others could not hear and asked what the problem was. He claimed that we called at 10:30 and told the staff not to bother - which was once again completely false. He denied that we called at 3AM and asked who we spoke with. I told him it was a male at the front desk. I told him it was extremely disgusting finding a condom wrapper next to our bed. He didnt seem to care and had a stuck up frenchman attitude. He asked what would you like me to do - offering nothing. I said I would like to be compensated and he said the room was already charged so he could do nothing. He asked if we parked there and I said no. He asked if we were coming back and I said I wasnt sure. I was thinking he was going to offer a free room or discount for our troubles. Instead he told me he would offer 1/2 price parking! WTF! I couldnt believe it. I told him that was ridiculous and we hastily left. We noticed on the check in day someone yelling at the staff and didnt think much of it, but now I am thinking problems might be very common at this hotel. We have always enjoyed out stay at the Marriott but we will NEVER go back to this horribly managed hotel. I would advise anyone to stay far away from the Residence Inn and I will speak with Marriott regarding this disgusting episode that greatly tarnished my image of Marriott hotels. I hope the cocky frenchman manager gets fired, but it looks like compensation is not in the hotels vocabulary. I have never had such a bad experience at a hotel!

This is a very nice property in a good location. It's just a short walk to the convention center, the ballpark, theaters, restaurants, etc. The room was great - and in great shape. Parking's pretty expensive at $45/night so you might want to ditch the car before you get here if you can. And don't buy anything from their in-house store -- it's $10 for a little frozen burrito! There were just a few things that kept me from getting to an "excellent" rating here. First, the weekday housekeeping staff missed a lot... didn't provide shampoo two days in a row, swiped our toilet paper and didn't replace, and didn't clean everything. Second, there was no recognition for Marriott Rewards Platinum status. I had asked for a room with a view on the CN Tower side and, at $240/night might've at least expected an explanation why we couldn't get it, but Platinum status doesn't seem to make any difference here. Othewise, breakfast was fine and our stay was above average.

The property is very centrally located to the Toronto Blue Jays Stadium, CN Tower, Second City, the theatre district, and wonderful restaurants. Hotel parking was only valet, and better to self park nearby. Check in was fast and the staff was friendly. Our room was very spacious, and comfortable. The beds were very relaxing. Free Wifi but very limited WiFI in our rooms. Lobby WIFI worked well. Free breakfast was a 30 minute wait the days were were at the hotel. Breakfast was excellent. The property is a good value, and our family would stay there again.

This is the second time we've stayed at the Residence Inn Downtown. This time it was a little more expensive than last October - however, the breakfasts are terrific and the Monday-Wednesday evening hospitality nights are great with speciality snacks for the evening. Randolph in the bar area is a terrific host and ambassador for the hotel. He does know his stuff! Always recommend a residence in for a comfortable stay - it feels like you are coming home!
