“The best in town!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 January 2014

I have been here several times and i have enjoyed every visit! The employees are very friendly, helpful and do a great job at serving and attending each costumer. Even though the restaurante is located in yorkville the food is affordable. The chef does an excelente job in dish presentation and the food is delicious!!! It has a vast list of wines from all over the world and I don't think there isn't one they dont have. I plan on returning and I will recomend it to all my friends and family.

“Much Ado about Nothing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013

The amber-lit room with mahogany wine shelving creates a cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, this lovely first impression is Spuntini's only strength. In a restaurant, the food and the dining experience matters. Spuntini's food, service and general ambience fell short of expectations when I dined there with my husband on a Saturday evening in December.

Dishes were not fresh and flavours were pedestrian Both the appetizers and the mains were served lukewarm and came to the table within minutes of our order. A shrimp bisque was served with a "heated in the microwave" filmy layer over the top. Nary a trace of shimp flavour graced this bisque. The portobello salad should have had some bite, especially since it was served with blue cheese and a promise of fresh herbs. Instead, this salad was flat and the fresh herbs were conspicuously absent. A veal scallopine main with "tiger shrimp" and a porcini mushroom cream was was average at best. Cold by the final bite, served with two small shrimp (looking and tasting like they were from the frozen food section of the nearest supermarket), and flat veal slathered in gravy, this dish could have come from the frozen diner section. The grilled squid main was dry without the "mediterranean olive salsa" promised by Spuntini. The diced tomato that was thrown over the squid was unseasoned and the accompanying vegetables were not cooked through. This grilled squid could have been served anywhere.

The initial service was rushed and grew unprofessional by the minute. While it's nice that waiters acknowledge friends and regulars, it surely detracted from our dining experience when the waiter wedged himself into the banquette between us and his friends seated at the next table - throughout the meal.

Most of the people in the crowd looked like extras from a set of the Sopranos. The feel was "suburban night downtown": unsophisticated and uninteresting people, operating on a belief that dinner at a supposedly high-end bistro means you're cool.

“GREAT FOOD BUT PRICEY”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 December 2013

Like every place in Yorkville, the restaurant is fairly pricey. However, the food is very good. The pastas are reasonable and well prepared, but the "specials" are the trap: the waiter makes them sound like they are a special deal, but they are in fact very expensive. A fish dish was priced at $31, a bit on the high side. In any event, the place is packed every weekend. The ambiance is pretty good too. Look at the menu before you go and you will do well.

“HORRIBLE SERVICE, FOOD AND ATTITUDE!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 November 2013

I have eaten at this restaurant many times previously and had enjoyed my experiences at this restaurant, but this time will be my last time ever!! BE WARNED -- DO NOT EAT HERE!! If you want to eat at a restaurant where they can't even remember the daily specials and inform you wrong, then they spill your appetizer all over you, your clothes and your chair with barely an apology except "I didn't spill on you, did I?" and an offer to send your clothes to a dry cleaner after you indicate that "Yes, you did spill all over me" then this is the place for you! If you can look past food being spilled all over you and your table and then having the waiter tell the other waiter that he only spilled the food because there was sauce on the plate then perhaps you would enjoy raw and undercooked food being brought to your table after a 45 minutes wait when the restaurant is half empty? I ordered the veal chop done medium, which was brought to the table completely raw inside. One of the waiters took it away --- I say one because every minute we seemed to have another waiter at the table and none of them were any better than the first --- after questioning how I ordered it, which was medium and it was clearly raw, he took it away to redo. Then after my dining companion had completely finished eating her entire main course, the plate arrived again charred and burnt on the outside, still raw in the middle with the same cut marks I had previously sent back raw, on the same plate as the previous meal with the raw juices. When I indicated to the waiter that "first you brought me a raw chop and now my chop is burnt", the waiter reply's "It's only a little char". To be clear: the chop was thrown back on the grill with the sauce on it, causing it to burn and coming back to the table completely burnt! To make matters worse; they hid the char by pouring the sauce on top of it!. No apology from anyone except, "Would you like to see the menu again?" After all of this trouble and ruining my meal, the management sent over the bill charging for my mussels appetizer, which were mediocre at best and for my beverages which included two glasses of wine and a bottle of sparking water for which we never ordered!! No adjustment to the bill! No apology! Just here's your bill! Absolutely no part of this meal was enjoyable and you would have to be a fool to eat here! There are plenty of choices in downtown Toronto and this establishment will be taken off of my list -- permanently!
