This smaller restaurant does not have frontage on Yonge Street but was an excellent "find". The variety of dishes and flavours would please any palate and we enjoyed all our dishes. My only comment would be that, for 4 adults, 3 dishes per person ended up being just a bit too much, (our dishes included beef, duck, lamb, scallops and sardines!) The service was friendly and attentive and we will definitely go back "for seconds"!

Reading some of the other reviews, I can definitely see both the good and bad points of what people have said about this restaurant. I personally thought that the ambiance was cozy, but it is noisy. Don't look for quiet or smooth. The crowd is a little bustling (especially given its location just north of Yonge & St. Clair) and the service a little bit hectic. If you can tolerate that type of environment... or even (as in my case) enjoy it for what it is, then Cava is a good place. Turning to the food, it is also great and so-so. Like others, I was particularly unimpressed with the beef brisket - it tasted boiled and unflavorful, with a slightly slimy texture and thus disappointing on the higher price point. On the other end of the spectrum, the japanese eggplant and scallops (although admittedly pricey) were great. Similarly, some of the some of the small pinchos were good - the fig with blue cheese was a nice option. The urchin was interesting and had a good taste, but at $18 may not be the best place to spend your money, either. It is important to note that most of the flavors are traditional, but I wouldnt say that the tapas and pinchos are ordinary by most traditional Spanish standards; you will find typical Iberian ham and a croquette, but the rest of the menu is quite creative, and thus quite fun. So all things considered, I will definitely return, but you have to go knowing what you are getting into and thinking that at least some of the food might not work 100% the way that you are planning. Finally, keep in mind that especially if going on the weekend, you might want to reserve a few days in advance. The waiter seating us didn't take too kindly to the fact that we didn't have a reservation on a Friday night.

The smaller dishes were tasty but over priced. The main dishes like the beef brisket was horrible, a couple of ounces for $26.00!!!! For 4 scallops in sauce , which were tasty, $23.00 was way too much. We asked at the start of the meal for a bottle of house sparkling water, and we're never asked if we wanted more and yet we're charged for three, the last not even touched.

We won't be going back.

On our first visit to Cava my wife and I were very fortunate to have been greeted by and looked after attentively all evening by Theran. We left our food and wine selections up to him for what turned out to be a sensationally paced meal of 6 small plates for sharing. We loved every course with the standouts being the Pincho of Gamay-poached Foie Gras, and Frog's Legs & Mussels in a spectacular coconut/curry sauce. We wish we could have taken a bucket of that sauce home! As a special treat we were taken back to Barcelona with a plate of Iberico ham. If you love serrano ham or prosciutto you won't believe the incredible taste/texture of Iberico. Treat yourself! We are returning next week and have our fingers crossed that these plates will be available. Thanks again Theran.

We had a magnificent time. The welcomed was warm and our waitress was knowledgeable and sensitive to our needs. Her advises were well intended and sensible. The selection was large and, coming back from Spain, we found back all the savour of the food plus a certain "savoir-faire" and a presentation that was most appropriate. I chose a Vouvray that was absolutely delicious. One particular quality : the pace of the serving was right and the dishes appeared at the right time, giving us time to appreciate one dish without having to wait for the next to appear. All in all, a pleasurable experience.
