Owner description: The birthplace of Confederation and the seat of PEI's provincial legislature since 1847, Province House National Historic Site is Charlottetown's most significant cultural landmark. Walk in the footsteps of the Fathers of Confederation as you learn about the history of this magnificent example of neo-classical architecture and see how it remains a centre of political life for Islanders today.

We took a 20 minute (free) tour of the building. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained the historical events associated with the building in great details. Overall a very good site to visit in Charlottetown.

The Province House is quite a little treat, I was surprised to discover the tour was completely free. The tour is probably of most interest to Canadians, or people interested in politics, history or architecture.

If you have time to stop by, but maybe aren't sure if it's up your alley, I would recommend watching the free film first. The film gives you a better idea of what you're looking at if you have any doubt -which I did.

The legislative chamber is pretty fascinating for anyone who has previously visited other provincial legislatures -it's tiny! The young tour guides also do a nice job of exposing the hidden easter eggs of this historic building.

The gift shop also has probably some of the most Canadian souvenirs you can find at okay-ish prices.

Simply Excellent!!!
Our kids were all glued to their reenactment which followed history that even us parents weren't aware of.
Well worth the time

There is not much to this - three rooms and an interesting 17 minute film but it is worth the short time it takes to look around. It's all free.

Location is downtown Charlottetown within walking distance of all the attractions. Check out the large 1864 outside the building, there to celebrate 150 years since the Charlottetown Conference.

History was good, seeing they still use the same chamber for provincial government today was impressive.
