“Expected more”

The building is older as expected, appears well maintained, clean rooms, good location. The young boy who checked us in and gave us a brief tour was uninterested, not very friendly, definitely not PEI friendly. Really disappointed breakfast time was limited to 1.5 hours, 8:00-9:30, this was on a Saturday morning. We had to be on the road reasonably early so missed it completely, after reading a recent review of long waits for food I'm glad that we did. TV picture was not very good, thankfully we weren't watching it much. The biggest disappointment, hefty room rate, expected much more for the price.

We have mixed feelings about The Sonata Inn. The location was perfect, very close to Victoria Park and within walking distance of the city center. Our room was basic, but clean and spacious with a huge closet. We also enjoyed the breakfast, which was a combination self-serve and made-to-order. Breakfast begins promptly at 8am, and the continental selections include items like toast, cereal, and bagels. There were two fresh selections each morning, like eggs or french toast. On the second floor, there was an extensive DVD collection in a bright sunroom/office. There is also a common area kitchen with a coffee maker, microwave, and drinks to purchase.

There were a few elements that were "off" about the hotel. There is no staff on the inn's premise at night. There was a sign at the front desk with a number to call if a need arose overnight. Despite our spacious closet, there was no iron or ironing board in our room. It wasn't an inconvenience during our stay, and perhaps there is one in a common area. Our room was a bit stuffy, and the air condition wasn't fully effective in circulating the air. While our room and bathroom were clean, the public areas showed some wear and tear, with dirty carpet and marked-up paint in some areas. Sound-proofing was also an issue. We could hear someone in a nearby room snoring, and in the hallway, a conversation from another room was fully audible. I can anticipate the lack of sound-proofing being an issue for light sleepers.

Because the room was clean and spacious and the location was prime, I would consider staying at The Sonata Inn again.

It appears that PEI prices in mid-Summer have reached ridiculous level - like $293 for two people for one night. That was their best suite, I guess, but it is still a 3-story walk-up to get to the room, the top floor of an old building.

The breakfast was ok but nothing special and the guests are left to discover for themselves what all is available to them. The location has no view of the bay so that's no what they're charging for. Instructions given for the wifi was not correct (no password where they said it would be) so we had to walk back down those stairs to get the info we needed to get online. They charge the way they do because they can, as far as I can see.

I will give them top marks for location since it is near downtown with its shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: Don't go there in June or July.

Beautifully situated - walking distance to everything. We stayed 2-nights here as part of a 2-week trip through the Maritimes - my wife, our 19-month old daughter and myself. The entire place was extremely clean and the room was spacious. My only issue was about the breakfast format from 7:30-9:00 a.m. The problem is that in addition to the typical continental (self-serve) option they also offered cooked breakfasts that you could order at the table - omelettes, eggs benny, and the like i think. If you're not there at the earliest, you may have to queue for some time as some guests were seated for close to an hour between ordering, waiting, eating and chatting. The first morning we opted to take some cereal and coffee to our room. The second morning there were again long queues waiting for breakfast - since we were leaving this morning, we opted to have breakfast at a restaurant. Most B&Bs that offer cooked breakfasts usually take your order the previous night at which time you can choose what time you'd like to sit down for breakfast. Anyways, that my 2-cents. Was still a very nice place.

Room Tip: arrive for breakfast when it begins or expect to queue.

We regret that we change our reservation from the Best Western to the Sonata Inn. I will start with the positives-the room was a nice size and the bed was firm. On the negative-there was no one to tell you about restaurants, hot water was limited, and the breakfast was just odd-our scrambled eggs were made with only egg whites. While this may be healthy it looked odd and tasted like chemicals. One should settle the bill upon arrival because there may not be anyone there when you checkout. The workers we did see never introduced themselves. A very odd experience.

This B&B has a great location. It is in a nice area and you can walk to the city center.
The breakfast was good.
What I did not like was that I never met the owner; that is why I like B&Bs because the owner makes it cozy and is nice to meet them and talk to them. It did not feel personal.
This felt like a small hotel; they have several rooms and it did not feel cozy.
We stayed in bedroom #3 and it is dark. In my opinion it needs a lighter coat of paint, some light fixtures and a different color carpet because the brown carpet does not help.
The bathroom looks nice and it is a light color.
It was $200 for the three of us.

Our room was nice and spacious. The hosts were very welcoming and had great suggestions for places to visit and restaurants. Breakfast was good and it was fun chatting with the other guests. We took advantage of the laundry. The location is within walking distance of the town centre. We would recommend this place to anyone!
