Probably the worst restaurant meal I have ever had for sure will never be back. The penne pasta was soft and the sauce was so thick I had to scrap it off the noodles. Left and went for a pizza.

Couldn't tell you about the food because we never got that far. When we arrived some random man who was talking to the wait staff and acting like he belonged there started talking to us. Turns out he didn't. We stood there for about 10 minutes before anyone noticed us and by then people who came after us had already been seated. There were no tables that would fit my family of 4. I was really annoyed about that and went to speak to a manager. He was worse than the rest of his staff. Claimed he sent a staff person over but it was after we had been waiting 10 minutes and they seated someone else who came in after us ahead of us. There was no space for my family. Plus they have no kids menu. Skip this place. There are better ones.

On a hot day we were looking for a patio lunch. The location is lovely, right on Vic Row, but our first clue should have been the many empty tables, compared to the other restaurants on the Row. The menu sounded appealing but the food was a big disappointment. For example the salad was a spring mix, but you know how quickly the lettuces turn dark and slimy in the fridge? That's what we got. Had to pick through the salad to remove the yucky stuff. And it was dressed with oil. No vinaigrette, just oil. The lobster cake sounded good and looked good, but had very little flavour. Server was very blasé. Overall a big disappointment, especially as the location is perfect. When we told various locals where we had gone for lunch (with no comments) their reaction was all the same. "Oh dear." Pick up the pace, Diem, you have a diamond in the rough. But right now it is just rough!

The best part of dining lunch at Ristorante Diem is that the al fresco area during the summer features daily local music talent playing just across the street. On a good weather day, it is lovely. For everything else, this restaurant is slightly overpriced with nothing special food. Service is attentive and pleasant, outdoor tables are shielded from the sun (if you prefer). My wife had a Greek Salad and I had a ham and cheese panino. With two ice teas (refills are NOT included), the total with tax/tip came to nearly $40. You pay a premium for the outdoor dining and there are better options for that in Charlottetown.
