For a warm welcome to Charlottetown, PEI, go to the Duchess of Kent Inn. Nothing is too much for Sharyn and Doug, the owners to help make your stay a memorable one.

The location is perfect for getting around on foot and there is plenty to see and do. Sharyn had a map prepared for us with places to see marked as she had asked about our interests when I booked our stay and she had the appropriate brochures all ready! That is really caring for her guests.

Like some other reviewers, my granddaughter and I shared the very private 3rd floor suite and loved it. I enjoyed the breakfasts provided but my GD was able to sleep in and make use of the guest kitchen before we headed out to see the sights. We used the kitchen for snacks and hot drinks often and really appreciated that aspect of the inn. The Duchess of Kent became our home away from home and we hope to return and definitely recommend it to others.

Charlottetown is a super-friendly place to visit and you may find out more about it and PEI by contacting their tourism sites.

This was the most hospitable lodging of the half dozen we visited in PEI, Sharyn was a delightful hostess whose warmth and concern for our welfare was one of the highlights of our trip to PEI. We spent four nights at the Duchess, a building with great character beautifully decorated by Sharyn and cared for by Doug. The tips about food and entertainment provided by our hostess and host added much to our experience. Sharyn and Doug are outstanding examples of the fine, friendly people of PEI.

We wanted a place in downtown Charlottetown to be in the center of PEI for our vacation and found that the "traditional" hotels, etc were booked solid because of the Seafood Festival, so we started looking at other alternatives and are we glad we did. The Duchess of Kent Inn was more than we bargained for and then some. We had to book a couple of different rooms to get in which meant we got to stay in three out of the 4 rooms including the 3rd floor suite which was the topper for the cake. We had some flexibility and were able to stay in the 3rd floor suite another night, incredible! We will go back to visit with Sharon and Doug again and really look forward to staying with two terrific people who turned out to be friends as well. It's the first time we ever stayed at a B & B and what a delight.

I stayed at the Duchess of Kent Inn in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in July, 2005. It was after much research and consideration that I booked this accommodation and it was a great choice. My friend and I had difficulty finding an appealing room with two beds for a good price. At the Duchess of Kent, we booked the entire 3rd floor of the Inn, which had a sitting room, 2 bedrooms and a lovely bathroom for $125. One of the bedrooms had the cutest turret with seating area off it! Perfect for late evening picnics or some wine and chat. There are two extremely steep staircases to get to the 3rd floor. They are entirely safe but may challenge bad knees or vertigo!

Breakfast is available for a paltry $3.50, but the strict timing of the availability and the need to commit the night before (earlier than we returned from our evening of dinner and strolling) made it an offer that we were unable to accept. The house is set up in such a way that the guests have 24-hour access to a fully stocked kitchen and full sized fridge so we were entirely free to keep our bread, cheese, fruit and wine within easy reach.

The location of the inn within the city of Charlottetown is good. It is in the outer periphery of the downtown area so open eateries after 10 p.m. are scarce, but for walking around the downtown core by day it is a safe and appealing residential area within easy access of Government House, Confederation Centre, St. George St., the marina and waterfront.

I recommend lunch at the Olde Dublin Inn, arriving at or after 2 p.m. when you can get an amazing lobster feast, with free appetizer of mussels or chowder, for $20. Across the street is the Gahan which makes its own beer in an impressive variety of brews (one with a chocolate finish!) and has as its trademark a great fish and chips option, served in a paper bag.

Our hostess was a hospitable den mother, worried with our late arrival and full of exuberance and helpful tour information. Parking is available if Ms. Dalrymple is advised, be it in their driveway or on the street where she will feed the meter for you!

I recommend this inn without any reservation (but make a reservation, since it is sure to be at full occupancy!). Pictures viewable at http://community.webshots.com/user/kaki333
