“Sleek Hotel!”
Reviewed 28 September 2013

We had a wonderful experience staying at Hotel Zero One in Montreal. It's right next to Chinatown and very walkable to Old Montreal. The service is similar to what you would expect from a good hotel but I would recommend staying here just for the design of the hotel and rooms which was very different from the hotels that we had stayed in the past.

I loved staying here. It was booked for me by a colleague as it was within our budget. It did not disappoint. Styling is not to everybody’s taste. Think "Space 1999" and "UFO" (UK sci-fi TV shows by Gerry Anderson). Rooms are compact but very adequate. Executed in a very European way. If you like oversized and overweight North American style hotel rooms don't stay!
Front desk staff were excellent. They were a wealth of knowledge and always had a smile. Even at 12.45am in the morning when I needed some soup. I was directed to a great restaurant in China town that was open till 3.30am!
Finally, if you want a great night’s sleep, this is the hotel to stay at. Quiet with the windows shut. The bed is the best I have slept in for a long time. Highly recommended. I would stay again if I am in Montreal in the future for business.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to the corner suites to get a better view of Montreal.

No better location in Montreal. At entrance to Chinatown near old town and underground. Rooms are small, but clean, comfortable and modern. Staff is friendly and capable. Rooms include micro, fridge and table service. Bathroom is extremely convenient and stylish with great tiled shower. Rooms are extremely quiet and have a large picture window. Great Internet service and fantastically comfortable bed. You will not regret staying here. It is a great value!

We found this hotel through Expedia's unpublished rate hotels, you book first and then find out the name of the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at the central location of Hotel Zero 1, a 10 min. walk to Old Port or Rue St. Catherine and most important our favourite restaurant Jardin Nelson. The hotel decor was very modern and creative (lots of black paint) but we especially loved the roof terrace on the 5th floor. We found the hallways to be a little too dark, they could use more pot lights and reading the door numbers a little bit challenging. The terrace was a lovely place to relax in the sun after a long day of shopping (a few more padded chairs would be nice). We stayed in room 911 which was beside elevator but it didn't bother us. We though the hotel might be loud do to being located between two busy streets but we were impressed how quiet our room was. The rooms are on the small side but artfully arranged. The black out curtains worked very well and they provided a kitchenette in a cupboard with cups, plates for the microwave and other useful utensils i.e. bottle opener. We found the front desk staff and the valet all very friendly and helpful too. Please note valet parking is $25.00 a day and isn't on site, it is located a few blocks away. The valet does let you know to give them 30 mins. notice if you need your car. However having said this I wouldn't recommend parking on the street as we saw a car with it's window smash out. After all the hotel is a very convenient up and coming location there still is a few seedy establishments on the same street. We would definitely go back because it is good value for the money.

Room Tip: I would ask for a higher floor if you like your room quieter.

We loved the Zero1. It's really trendy and modern whilst being comfortable and pretty decent value for money. As we were travelling quite extensivley around Canada we were delighted to make use of the kitchenette factilites and take a break from expensive eating out. Location is good too for exploring the city . All in all, it's a great option for Montreal.

Overall, this felt like a budget hotel, with pretensions to being a boutique hotel. Unfortunately it had none of the "boutique" trappings that make such places enjoyable and worthwhile stays.

The good: The location was good. On the edge of china town, easy walking to Old Montreal, as well as Mont Royal and the shops too. The bathroom in the room was small but functional, and was in its way quite funky. The staff, though seemingly glued to the front desk, were friendly. The room was clean. The internet connection was great! Our three year old liked it - but she likes all hotels. Coffee and muffins in the morning - the only, nice touch.

The bad: Very few stopping places at the side and back of the hotel ( perhaps seven in total?) for dropping off/picking up and checking in. These 15 minute waiting spots seemed to be mainly used as parking by some unseen people? The hotel is - as everyone says - dark. The rooms are small dark and fairly depressing. This is not a hotel to lounge or relax in. If you want a place to sleep off your night out, it may be the place for you. If you want somewhere to relax in between sightseeing excursions, this is not the place for you. It is - in my opinion - over-priced for the condition of the rooms and what the place offers. The decor looks tired. The reception area is a huge space with nothing in it. Facilities, other than in the bedroom etc. are non-existent. This is not a meet-and-greet, feel-good, sort of a place...

Parking Tip: Unless you have time to wait, and money to burn... or for some reason cannot walk more than a block comfortably, do not bother with the valet parking. Friday to Sunday for $10/day, park two blocks west at Complex Dejardins... very convenient, clean, modern, safe (so it seemed to me) and easy...

Room Tip: Ask for one without the smoke detector placed directly over the bed - if that is possible? - the glo...
