Although there's a lot of not so good reviews on TripAdvsor about this hotel I found it to be better than that. Of course it depends on with whom you are traveling with and how easily you get disturbed and so on. But this hotel worked for me at least. And the staff there speaks really good english so no need to worry about the language!
The room we got was fronting the back and we couldn't really hear any noises from the outside. It's an old building so obviously the walls are not really thick but at leat the first night (on Friday) was really quite. Saturday night was a bit more noisy and there sounded to be people partying somewhere. But the music and all wasn't so loud that it would have disturbed me a lot. Although I'm quite a light sleeper! The room itself was clean and nice. Nothing too fancy about it but we didn't expect anything like that either. Bed was good to sleep on and the shower worked well. Just remember to bring your own towel! And there wasn't any comforter as such. Or maybe it's just me who doesn't consider the daily coverage the same as a comforter. Wifi was also available and working. Just remember to ask the password if they forget to give it to you when you check in! There was also a phone in the room and we could make free local calls. Our room was on the second floor and the fact that there's no elevator didn't bother as very much but I can imagine that with bigger suitcases those deep stairs are definitely not the easiest one to climb!
The breakfast was basic but good enough for us. Bread, jam, butter, coffee, tea, milk and cereals, cheese, orange juice... The staff was also really friendly and helpful. And there's always someone around so when we went out on Saturday and came back late the door was still open and we didn't have any difficulties in coming back so late.
The bus station is really near the hotel and I'm not sure but I think the new terminal is not so noisy as the old one used to be. Downtown and Rue Sainte-Catherine and all are also quite near and one can easily reach those by walking. But sometimes a map could be a good thing to have with you and at least from the Tourist Information Center at Peel Street you can get one for free.
