“The food was fine but...”
Reviewed 26 July 2013 via mobile

We did not have a reservation and they set an extra table for us in another section but this perhaps overtaxed the waiter... 4 of us were served our meals while two of us waited. My husband would have been finished before I was served my meal if he had not shown some restraint! Food was fine but the service and ambiance where we were seated spoiled the dinner for us. They were trying to be nice but it would have been better to have been told they were full.

“If you're looking for authentic Italian food and outstanding service then go here!”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

I took my girlfriend to this restaurant for our anniversary and it was simply spectacular! I ordered Veal marsala which was cooked to perfection with the right amount of marsala wine and mushrooms. The value is great and is on par with other "fine-dining" restaurants around the city of Montreal. The service was fantastic and our food came in a timely manner even though the restaurant was packed. Highly recommend to make reservations at least 5 days or a week before so you won't have to wait in line. I will going back to Da Franco in the near future!

“Unpretentious and cosy...”
Reviewed 11 April 2013

We recently sampled the fare in Da Franco. It was close to our hotel and handy for us to pop in for an early dinner before heading to the 6:30 light show at Notre Dame. Warmed rolls are brought to your table whilst you wait for your meals. The portions of spaghetti & meatballs and fettucine carbonara were enormous and complemented by a sides of grilled vegetables, salad and a nice glass of Montepulciano. The service was friendly and fun. When we had finished, with some spaghetti and meatballs left due to no more room, our waiter told us he was dreading taking the plate to the chef! Nice humour, unpretentious and very reasonably priced too. What's not to like?

“"Lovely, lively & unpretentious Montreal gem!"”
Reviewed 21 February 2013

Located in the heart of Old Montreal, steps from Notre Dame Cathedral, can't ASK for a better location. Ambience is warm, inviting, comfortable, low lights, amply spacious and utterly unpretentious as far as decor. Engaging and convivial host Giulio, a 3rd generation restaurateur with a huge smile and boundless humour details the menu with familiarity and cheer and lovingly steers his gourmet brother in whatever direction you'd like. A la carte all great (our group tried 5 dishes) and chef's suggestion or preference delightful fun. Pasta dishes generous in portion, rich in flavour and always complimented by fresh hot bread and a well-suggested wine pairing. Above all, very reasonably priced. We left with big smiles and a pleasant glow. Outstanding experience!

“Fabulous italian, at an even more frabuous price!! Jaime Alcaraz Montreal”
Reviewed 20 February 2013

Anyone that likes authentic Italian food with a mom's-home-cooked taste should certainly visit Da Franco's restaurant in Old Montreal. The food is wonderful, the menu diverse, the wine selection great and the service warm and friendly. Absolutely loved it...so much so I've been back many times! They could charge more, but shhhh...don't tell them! Jaime Alcaraz Montreal
