“Great business location but poor children services”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

I was in Montreal on business and love the fact that the hotel is situated so close to the Congress Center. My wife and I also wanted to spend time with our two grand-daughters (2 and 5 years old) and we had them stay with us for one night. No problem with the room. We inquired at the front desk about the hotel restaurant Gazette for dinner and breakfast. We were told that the restaurant had a children's menu for dinner and that children ate free for breakfast. After being seated in the restaurant at dinner time, the server brought us the very limited children's menu and were told that Hotel Management had decided to offer 'healthy menu'. We have no problem with this, however the 5 year old saw a lady at another table eating fries and that is what she wanted, we could not change her mind. The server told us if we wanted to order fries, it would cost us 3 times the regular price. We had no choice to walk out of the restaurant and go somewhere else for dinner. The next morning, my wife called for room service for breakfast and was told that the items on the children's menu was not available and that she could order an adult plate of pancakes that they would put into two smaller plates. Although that is what she wanted on the children's free breakfast menu, my wife agreed. At check out, this is what the 'free children's breakfast' ended up costing: two plates of pancakes $27 + $3.44 QST +$1.73 GST + $4.50 TIP + $3 delivery charge!!! for a total of $39.67! I am not impressed to say the least.
We are far from being rich and feel that we were taken advantage...

Dear famroy, thank you kindly for sharing your feedback further to your visit with grandchildren. I am sincerely sorry we fell short of your expectations in regards of the children menu. Westin implemented some major changes in the past few months in order to position itself as a healthy destination for the entire family. Reading your review, it is clear we still need to work on our delivery to ensure we offer not only a healthy menu, but a delectable one for our guests of all ages. Again, I thank you for your comments and I hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you and your family back at Le Westin Montreal. Sincere regards,

Raymond St-Pierre, GM

I had a very nice stay at Le Westin and found the property to be exactly as illustrated in the photos. The bed was quite comfy and the property conveniently located. The reception staff was helpful and my room on the Starwood Preferred Floor was nice. I have no regrets and would reccomend this property - especially if you can secure a good deal.

Stayed for 4 nights. Great staff. The room is clean. The bedding is very comfortable. The location is ideal, across street from the conventional center, walking distance to a lot of great restraunts and very close to Chinatown.

Stayed 4 days and 3 nights for a conference. Rooms were well appointed, clean and comfortable. I felt very safe and secure in this large hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful - no attitudes ( which I have encountered at other Westin properties). Food was very well prepared and the bar amenities were excellent. The hotel is centrally located between the old city and the business district. Despite the size, it maintains a boutique feel. The only negative was one inoperable elevator which did slow things a bit. Otherwise it was a perfect stay!

This was a great location for walking to the old town and port area of Montreal but it is opposite the conference centre and so catered to mainly business guests. There is a small restaurant and bar area but nowhere really for a family (we travelled with 3 children, 12,11,8) to sit and relax and have a drink. For a 22 storey hotel I was expecting a bar area or restaurant on the higher floors to take advantage of the view over the city.

We were disappointed that our room (room 521, a premium 2 queen room), which cost around $480 Canadian per night, looked out to a brick wall a short distance away. We could only see the warehouse out of our large window, unless you got extremely close to the window and twisted your next to look directly up to the sky! The room was therefore dark. The room was very quiet though - perhaps an advantage to overlooking a service alley!

The beds were very comfortable and the furniture in the room was very nice and the room clean. The shower was particularly good - great pressure and very roomy. There was a microwave and fridge and coffee machine (Startbucks coffee).

Despite booking in as a family of 5 there were only 4 towels and one each of shampoo, shower gel etc. in the room on arrival. This clearly not enough for 5 people! When we left a note to ask for more towels and toiletries after the first night no extras were left, which I find particularly annoying! This is basic customer service.

The pool was tiny and very crowded with families with small children. For such a large hotel I would expect a pool where you could actually swim! The pool had a glass bottom over the area where the cars unloaded at the entrance of the hotel, which my kids loved but I thought was just a bit weird! There was another two plunge type pools, one hot and one cool, that did not have the glass bottoms but they were just for sitting in really. There was also a sauna and some loungers and tables at the side of the pool. There were some flotation devices, which was great for families travelling with little children. There was a lifeguard on duty and plenty of clean pool towels.

The valet parking is $30 per night but there are several carparks nearby - we parked a short walk away at Vincipark (629 St Antoine St W) & it cost us $23 for the 2 nights parking.

I stayed here for four nights while attending a conference. It is a nice conference hotel -- comfortable room, easy walk to restaurants and tourist areas, and great meeting facilities. The staff were pleasant. I had stayed for several nights in a great, small hotel in the Old Port before moving here for my conference -- and I would recommend that for anyone visiting Montreal as a tourist. However, if you like Westins or are looking for the large hotel experience, this is a comfortable place to stay.
