Owner description: Pointe-à-Callière, the birthplace of Montréal and a National Historic Site, offers visitors the opportunity to explore history through an original underground circuit leading through archaeological excavations. At the start of their visit, an immersive multimedia show presents a high-speed view of the city's history, the remains come to life and the count down begins! The museum also offers year-round temporary local and international exhibitions. For Montréal's 375th anniversary in May 2017, Pointe-à-Callière will inaugurate a new pavilion highlighting Fort Ville-Marie.

“historians, archaeologists and the merely curious will all enjoy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2013

This museum has taken a riverfront historic site and using archaeology has taken the site down to several different points in history. So on one part you see the pre-European fishing and hunting village, then you see the early fort site, then in the late 1800s there was a modern building put over the same site. When you first enter there is an optional (free with entry) movie. I encourage you to do it, it gave a bit of an historical overview and was pretty interactive. We enjoyed wandering through the different parts of the dig sites and I know our 9 year old would have loved all the buttons to push and video bits. The only incongruous part of the whole thing is that they had a massive special exhibit on the Beatles on site?

“Very Interesting.”

I expected a dull hour or two in a modern building displaying the history of Montreal. Little did I know how interesting it would be and the special exhibit on the Beatles concert in Montreal was icing on the gateau. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

“Nice Museum But ...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

It was a nice museum showing the development of Montreal from the time of the original settlers. The audio visual show introducing the Museum verged on revisionist history with a "separatist" bent. Otherwise worth seeing as it gave some perspective on how Montreal grew into a major city.

“Very interesting”

Very interesting visit. Historical Multi media presentation of Montréal was very well done. The secondary exposition was The Beatles. It takes approximatly 1 1/2 to see everything.
