“Beautiful spot...with some downsides....pretention and overpriced...”
Reviewed 5 November 2013 via mobile

Went to this hotel for our 21st wedding anniversary...
I will start with the positive
1) Beautiful clean room
2) Beautiful spot overlooking St Paul street
3) Nice jacuzzi and gorgeous shower

Heres the not so great

1) If they offer you the inn room massage online when you are booking you are better to communicate directly with the spa 5 blocks down...my in room massage became a we can't do that because your room is too small and no we don't offer transportation because its 5 blocks away....sure every one wants to walk after a massage...not...
2) In reference to number one...I speak french Canadian...these front desk people speak french parisian and in saying that offer their help without actually helping (i.e. Walking 5 blocks after a massage)
3. I highly suggest getting your breakfast elsewhere...they add 3 dollars to certain plates on the menu and don't bothee putting toast on it...and ask for a gratuity on the bill...you have to sit on the tiny uncomfortable wooden chairs instead of the cushy ones on the other side because of some rule that is non existant...
3) They control the heating and the windows become sealed shut...(for the winter) would not matter because its lose sleep because of the heat or lose sleep because of the noise on St Paul....

The sights around the hotel are beautiful..but many places are overpriced and not worth the money....as werw most of the restaurants we went to....

If you do have a chance to go to Gibby's restaurant it was expensive but fabulous....worth every bite...without pretention...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comment and taking the time to share your experiences at l’Auberge du Vieux Port with us.

Firstly, I’d like to say that we’re happy you loved the room and location.

Concerning your issue with the massage, I am very surprised to hear that you couldn’t receive this service in your room, especially considering you had one of the biggest rooms in the hotel. To my knowledge, we’ve never experienced this issue before. I will certainly look into the details.

Regarding your concerns with the reception team, I’ll direct you to the many comments about our hotel that praise our staff as friendly and passionate about their work. Also, we’re very proud to have two charming ladies from France on our team, which probably explains why you heard the front desk service speaking with a Parisian accent. I too am a French-speaking Quebecois and understand these two employees perfectly in both English and my native tongue. In fact, I find their accents quite pleasant.

As per breakfast: yes, some dishes have additional fees (the eggs Benedict being an example) and yes, said dishes are not listed as being included with toast, bagels, fruit, yogurt, croissants, etc.. But this is only because these listed items are available, free of charge, at the self-service counter; they’re included with all hotel breakfasts.

Know that we take all comments seriously and appreciate your feedback.

We hope in the future you’ll give us another chance. We’ll certainly do our very best to improve your experience on your next visit.

We stayed here for three nights in August 2013. When we came through the door, the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and it only got better. Everyone who worked their took the time to greet us, ask what our plans for the day were and offered tips on what to see or how to get around.
Our room was great, overlooking the "Vieux Port" and featured beamed ceilings and bare brick walls with a very comfy bed. Daily breakfast was included in the price and was ample with plenty of choices.
Everything in Old Montreal was within a few minutes walk. The Metro was a bit further, but not impossible to get to. We'd stay here again.

My husband and I spent two nights at this hotel prior to embarking on a cruise. I chose the hotel because of it's proximity to the cruise port as well as for the charm of the place. The room and bath were beautiful - exactly as shown and described. Very large spaces, both of them. The room was in good repair, had plenty of towels and bath amenities, the jetted tub was huge, we had a view onto the street and across to the docks, and the bike path we wanted to enjoy was right out front. Behind the hotel the entire street was lined with interesting little restaurants. We enjoyed walking each evening, perusing the menus and then choosing what sounded best. The staff at the hotel was very helpful, always providing everything we needed. They even called and reserved seats for us on the Hop On Hop Off Bus which has a stop conveniently located a few blocks away. They gave great directions, too! We enjoyed the daily complimentary breakfast which included breads, fruits, yogurt and a choice of hot entree as well as coffee and teas. Complimentary coffee and teas were also available throughout the day in the bar area right off the lobby. We really enjoyed every aspect of this hotel and the city of Montreal and will certainly return to stay again. Thank you!

Excellent service from all the staff. Besides a great location in the heart of Old Montreal, very nice rooms, what impressed us the most was the friendly and caring staff at this fine hotel. Our trip was twofold, one to visit Montreal and the other to bike around Montreal on the many bike paths offered there. Since we brought our bikes from NJ, our concern was safe keeping of our bikes and easy access to them during our stay. Valet Parking is offered but the location is a few streets away from the hotel (this should not be a concern as they get the cars very quickly if needed). The front desk staff and valet on duty at the time suggested that they can keep the bikes in a locked room only a few feet from the front desk. This is the way to treat customers. Again thanks to the entire staff for making our stay in your hotel a pleasurable one.

Would reccomend this hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Almost bent over backwards. Breakfast needs some help. Adaquate food but slow service. Would stay there again if I were in town. Housekeeping very efficient and through. Noise from the street can be a problem.

I was upgraded to a huge room, gorgeous! Modern, but still had the old Montreal charm to it. The room was clean, came with all amenities, and still very modern!

The location is amazing, walking distance to everything in old Montreal.

We did not eat at the hotel, but had drinks at the bar, and it was great!

We used the facilities downstairs for a business meeting, and catering was great, as was A/V, etc.

Excellent service from all staff who were very helpful. Room was great and the shower out of this world. Close to the old town with lots of restaurants close at hand. Breakfast was lovely served in a very relaxed way in the bar. Pancakes were made to order and there were other items to select from. Would certainly return if we stay in Montreal again.
