We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! It started a month or so in advance in communications with the hotel staff about our room desires and recommendations from the concierge. The famed Ritz-Carlton service shined from the start, and it lived up to its standards when we arrived. I felt like everyone that worked there truly enjoyed their jobs and were very helpful and congenial. We were upgraded to a suite with a fireplace after booking through the AMEX Fine Hotels and Resorts program. Ironically, it was a cool and rainy few days while we were there in August, so we did make use of the fireplace! The room was modern and luxurious. The bathroom was stellar. Daily breakfast at Maison Boulud was not very exciting, but our dinner there was delicious. We ended up trying to get in to a booked restaurant, but they gave us a fairly private table inside the lounge which turned out to be perfectly comfortable. The location was also great....well within walking distance of many fine restaurants, sites, and shopping.

There is no other way to describe this hotel than MAGNIFICENT!!! The property is beautiful and the rooms are very well appointed. They did not miss a detail. The bed was extremely comfortable. The service at the front desk, bar area and restaurant was top notch. The pool and outdoor terrace were very clean and relaxing. We stayed in a Deluxe room which turned out to be bigger than we expected, especially for a city. Loved the multifunction toilet. The hotel location is perfect. It was worth every penny and without a doubt would definitely stay here again when in Montreal.

I would have liked to give this 3.5 stars, but that is not available.

This is a lovely hotel and the location is perfect. However, I don’t think the service level reflects the room rate. I think our experience would have been better if the hotel hadn't been 100% booked with what appeared to be multiple wedding parties. We were celebrating our anniversary for 2 nights. A quick getaway in our own country (not all that common for us) with family members. First impressions mean everything in the hotel business. Upon arrival we were informed that the complimentary upgrade, based on the program with the travel agent booking would not be honored. No attempts to soften the blow or find us a better view/location. On the plus side, we did get early check in at 12:30 p.m., and that was very much appreciated.

Regarding lack of upgrade, I'm certainly getting tired of all these false promotions with travel agents who are part of their virtuoso group, or whatever program they are promoting. At the end of the day if the benefits are not given, what's the point? Four hotel stays later, with three different luxury brands, and failure to honor 'complimentary' upgrades is now the new norm. St. Regis, Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton - all the same. I would almost prefer them to remove this perk from the program, and if an upgrade is available, I will be pleasantly surprised. Instead, we always walk away feeling disappointed. Mind you we have recently changed our travel agent, so I’m hoping it’s not something to do with our new TA.

The room is very nice in a sort of eclectic way. The furniture is somewhat disjointed - vintage granny-style dresser didn't really go with the art deco style of the other furniture or the stunning Louis XV pink chair. Would have appreciated a small sofa rather than window seat as we hosted guests in our room, and it was awkward finding a place to sit. Bathroom is certainly beautiful and above average for this hotel category, but heated toilet seats in August, really? How awful. I’m pretty sure I'm the only crazy person to ask to have that feature turned off (only because we couldn't figure it out on our own).

The view from the room was into the side of another building so don't expect much when it comes to views at this hotel. And I was told this was a better view. Our family where staying down at the Loews Hotel Vogue and they had a lovely view.

Shower had intermittent scolding hot water and cold on the third day. We were in room 1005.

Turn-down arrived very early on the first night at 5:50. Didn't offer to come back, just handed us a couple of bottles of water. The next day I called and asked for a later turn-down and that worked out well.

They extended us late check-out but only after making the point of telling them it was part of our promotional package and they had already failed to honor one part of it. I was fully expecting them to say no, at least that's how the conversation sounded like it was going, until I spoke up.

Called housekeeping and asked for decaf espresso, unfortunately this very small request was ignored. Later in the day called again, they brought two plates of 6 pods but no milk or cream. Next morning someone came into the room (we hadn't checked out of the hotel yet) and removed the extra decaf pods left the day before - strange. I was looking forward to having another cup before our departure.

Maison Boulud
This is where the hotel shines, The staff are lovely, efficient, service-oriented professionals. We ate breakfast lunch and dinner and enjoyed our meals tremendously. Maison Boulud for dinner was truly exceptional.

Lounge
The lounge vibe was strange. Our table wasn't clean, didn't offer us nuts (other tables had). Seemed preoccupied with the wedding party that was coming in 30 minutes and we were warned, almost in a way that was encouraging us to vacate the premises. Anyway, when the video crew and wedding planner started moving furniture, we took the hint and left with our drinks to sit at the Maison Boulud Bar.

Overall this is a very beautiful hotel, but beauty only gets you so far. They have a long way to go to truly reflect the best of the best in hotels. Would we return? Maybe, but only because Montreal is such an amazing city.

It's a Ritz so it is beautiful but the service is over the top even for the Ritz! Great location, awesome historic feel with all the modern conveniences. The rooms are outfitted with all the latest technology without losing the historic character. Love the property and highly recommend a stay here.

Everything about this hotel works. It's well located, not too large and the rooms are amazingly well put together. The staff knows your name. How often does that happen? The bar and restaurant are excellent. There was nothing we didn't love. It's our Montreal hotel for life.
