The mix of shops and entertainment opportunities is great. The area is in full Christmas mode with lots for the children to do and see.

Of course, the Place des Arts is the premier destination in Montreal for world-class performances in and can only be as good as the performances there. However, expect little else in terms of architecture or auxiliary forms of entertainment. In the summer, I will admit that walking in its open spaces is nice and very enjoyable but in the winter when the gardens are too cold, the word "spartan" comes to mind...

The Place des Arts is an excellent place for entertainment. We had tickets to see the Tenors. We purchased these tickets through the PBS TV Station. Very easy area to walk around, easly access to all areas. Excellent Handicap facilities,(we didn't need the handicap but saw manly people being helped.

Wish we had a entertainment place like this nearer to home.

The main stage is pretty modern if compared to the likes of great halls, but the sound is quite good and the views are ALL good from any seat, which is not necessarily the case in old world theatres...

Place des Arts

It's a large complex with multiple performance venues. Not very attractive from the outside but nice inside. Signage is practically non existent. We only found our theater because we followed the crowd. It would have been much more difficult had the other venues had shows that evening. We would not have known which crowd to follow. The Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier lobby was spacious. It offered a lot of seating and multiple bars with multiple drink choices. Nothing like the limited choices at theater bars in the states.
The theater itself is huge with no decor, stark, straight from 1963. I would never want to be sitting in the top balcony it looked like it was a mile away from the stage. The main floor seating has NO CENTER AISLE. Seats 1 and 2 are in the center of the row of seats and the numbers radiate out from there. Horrible layout, anyone with a low numbered seat has to crawl over everyone in higher numbered seats. I guess if you know this in advance you can choose your seats accordingly. I would not want to be in seats 1-10 if there was ever a need to evacuate the theater.
