I must admit that I was slightly worried about some of the reviews I'd read on here; but needn't have been, this little hotel is super. We arrived 2 hours early for check in - the valet parking worked like a dream. The reception staff were extremely polite and facilitated a quick and easy check-in. We didn't have to wait for our rooms they were ready for us and were all delighted with them, lovely comfortable beds, bathrooms and very clean. The staff were super throughout; the continental breakfast was delicious and the lady waitress even remembered our preferences on the 2nd day. We loved sitting around the pool and although it is small, it served our purposes and the youngest member of our group in particular loved it in there. The concierge seemed extremely knowledgeable about restaurants and pointed us in the direction of a superb place for dinner that exactly met our needs. In fact we went back there the next day for lunch we because we enjoyed it so much. Despite the hotel being sold out of King rooms on the night of our departure the hotel accommodated a late check out until 2 pm for us all, of course, per many hotels we had to re validate our keys at 11am so that they worked until 2pm but the reception staff advised us. The hotel is in a super location, great security ... city centre close to great stores and a 5 minute taxi ride (approx Canadian $8 inc tip) from the Basilica Notre Dame and old Montreal.

IF I was forced to give any constructive feedback it would be to the staff in the hotel bistro bar. Not outstanding; and we probably wouldn't use this facility in the hotel again. However, saying that we did notice that this facility was extremely busy so there must be very happy customers who enjoy food and drinks there.

This is definitely a 4* property and 4* prices anyone wanting 5* this is not the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel in advance of your arrival to discuss the different rooms they have available.

We booked a 4 day stay. The- pool was important to us particularly because i had a hip replacement recently and swimming is great for it. I called to confirm that the pool was functioning before we left. When we arrived, the pool was not available. We went to swim the next day but the pool was out of service in the morning. When we asked, the desk said the pool was being fixed. I explained again that the pool was very important to us and the desk said they would inform the management and someone would get back to us --no one did. So, we finally asked to speak to the manager. This was on the third day of our stay. We asked the manager (Rosella, I think) to compensate us in some way for the swimming pool being nonfunctional for most of our visit. The manager was actually rude and told us she was sorry but even if the pool wasn't functioning in the morning it was in the afternoon and it was too bad we weren't around to use it; also that it had only been broken for the WHOLE day on Sunday. She was very rude and said she could offer nothing, particularly because we had BOOKED THROUGH EXPEDIA, which apparently made us second class citizens at the hotel (earlier on the phone, at least the desk had offered a breakfast coupon for that same day but we were past breakfast--the manager didn't even offer that!).

We were really shocked--the hotel has a lot of competition--there are many wonderful hotels in Montreal--but even with big bathtubs and nice rooms, I would never stay at Le St. rMartin again. Clearly they do not value their customes. To have a hotel manager tell us we were essentially lying and then do nothing to fix a problem--that was a deal breaker for us. And we're frequent visitors to Montreal (with a daughter at McGill). FYI--we went upstairs to see the pool after this and found facilities there and asked if the pool was okay to use. They said, "i wouldn't swim in it--it's been cleaned but the pump is broken and it's still not heated!"

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your stay with us at Le St-Martin.
I am truly saddened to hear the experience was not up to your expectations.

Rest assured that we most certainly do value guest satisfaction, and if the manager you spoke to during you stay did not get that feeling accross to you, I deeply apologize. We have revisited some procedures following your unfortunate situation.

Regarding the pool issue, we also apologize for the inconvenience. I understand the pool was an important part of your decision to use us, but the reasons why we had to close it were unforseen and out of our control. We wish we keep in open during your stay, but for safety reasons it could not happen.

Thank you,

Frederic Aouad

We bought a groupon for three nights at Hôtel St Martin. Service was great, especially Laura at front desk.

The only drawbacks were that the pool wasn't on the roof (so only in the sun for part of the day) and only two elevators to service quite a large building.

Other than that, the service, atmosphere, and accommodation were excellent.

Beware of the attached restaurant, however. It is not part of the hotel. Although the weekend staff are excellent and accommodating, the regular staff during the week are rather surly and unpleasant.

Dear GreenerPastures,

Thank you very much for choosing Le St-Martin and taking the time to share your experience on TripAdvisor. Its very much appreciated!
We are very happy to read you enjoyed your stay with us, and hope we will have the chance to host you again in the future.

I especially delighted your remembered the good service Laura provided you, and I will ensure she gets praises for it.

That being said, I wanted to apologize if you somewhat disappointed with the service levels you received at our award winning restaurant l'Aromate. Rest assured its certainly not the impression we want give. I honestly believe it simply must have been an isolated bad experience, and I will follow-up to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Have a great day!

My bf and i stayed there for 2 nights while visiting montreal. We had the verriere suite and loved it! In particular the spacious washroom with a deep tub and spacious shower. The pool is not the avg hotel pool... It was small but very unique and beautiful.... We were lucky enough to get the pool to ourselves one evening. The hotel service was superb... Even had a lady pushing around a trolley full of complimentary water and snacks for us to choose at our door! Best part of this hotel is location location location! With the metro stn just across the street and also walking distance to the popular shopping streets, it was very convenient getting here and there

Dear NW1130,

Thank you for staying at Le St-Martin!
We are very happy to see you enjoyed your time amongst us.

The Verrière room in which you stayed in my personal favorite room type (great views!) and our most popular upgrade from the Classic rooms.

I am also delighted you enjoyed our dipping pool lounge. If it is indeed a small pool, I am glad you saw it for what it is : a green oasis in the concrete jungle of the city centre.

Our 4PM complimentary treats, served at your door is yet another way for us to be unique and particular, I could not be happier you had the chance to experience it!

We look forward to hosting you again soon!

We parked our car and did not use it again till we left for Quebec City. The plush room was clean and kept clean during our stay. Our huge bathroom was well supplied with extra towels. The served breakfast was more than we needed. Mt Royal Park, The Museum of Fine Arts, and Old Montreal were within walking distance. The metro was also convenient. There were so many highly rated restaurants nearby that it was difficult to choose a restaurant. The hotel staff had no difficulty assisting the non-French speaking tourists from the US.

Room Tip: A 3-night stay or package can help you attain a room upgrade.

The hotel is very modern, very new, has a trendy restaurant attached, and is an easy distance from old montreal and shopping. Getting around town with the bike-share program is extremely easy and cheap.

The hotel "pool" is more like a very large hot tub... there isn't space for any real swimming.

The staff was very friendly
