“This hotel is all about the location”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

Stayed in Montreal in mid April on business and booked the Best Western Europa via points on Aeroplan.

When I pulled up, I was not sure where to park and if they even offer VALET, so I parked in a parking lot across the street and told the attendant I was staying at the BW. He said I would pay him $20 a day to park here.

Check in went smoothly and the front desk people were very nice and spoke very good English. (sometimes a concern in Montreal)

My room had 2 double beds, a small desk, a nice LCD TV, large closet with iron and ironing board. The floors in this room were not carpeted as in most BW's but instead laminate flooring. The only complaint I had on the room is that the security latch was missing from the door. Just had the deadbolt.

The rooms are a bit dated, but clean and the beds were very comfortable. Even know I was only staying one night I did find time to workout in the gym on the 6th floor. The gym was not not overly large and was equipped with 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical trainer and a universal weight machine. The water cooler had no water and the guy at the counter didn;t seem all that friendly. There is a TV in the room so you can watch something if on the TM's.

The best part of this BW is the location. It is right downtown and easy walking distance to the Bell Centre and many restaurants/bars in the area including the infamous Crescent Street. For those men who like to attend "the ballet". Chez Paree is right around the corner.

Not sure what the room rates are but if you can get a good deal on this hotel, it is worth staying at an affordable price. It is definitely not high end but comfortable.

The Hotel Europa is in an excellent location in downtown Montreal. A short walk from the train station to the hotel (my mode of travel) and within close walking distance to all amenities needed. The hotel itself is nothing write home about. It is very average and aging. There needs to be wallpaper/paint replaced on the walls. The arrangement of the hotel is a bit awkward getting in. There are steps that you have to go down to get to reception. I discovered later that there is a small elevator to go down but it isn't obvious. The room is average but it is clean and the bed is comfortable - actually amazingly so. The bathroom was terrific in terms of cleanliness, although space is tight between where the toilet is and the tub. A couple of bonuses: they have free local phone calls and 20 minutes free long distance to other provinces in Canada and the US and free wireless. Nice perks. This is something some of the big fancy hotels do not offer for free. I was able to call my family and check in with them. There is a CAA office just two doors down and if you are member you can pick up maps. The travel info centre for tourists is also not too far a walk. St. Catherines Street is just up the block and there is major shopping all around the street. Go a few blocks away and there is a grocery store that you can pick up some quick eats and breakfast items.

Don't bother with the gym. I went on the 6th floor and it looks desolate. The machines are old and there are no mats. I might recommend that they do away with the equipment and perhaps make a nice coffee lounge for people to buy a coffee. There is a restaurant near reception and a small corner store/souvenir shop you can pick up a coffee but I preferred to go down the street on St. Catherines and there is TONNES of places to grab a bite.

The staff on site were excellent. Check in was quick and the staff, I found to be helpful. If you are looking for a lower priced alternative in downtown Montreal this is it!

This is not a luxury hotel by any stretch but we chose the hotel for its amazing location being central to the Bell Center, restaurants, nightlife and down town. The front office staff were excellent and got us into our room quite early (0900 check-in). The rooms were clean although our room was extremely small. As we were traveling with family we were able to see another of the queen room which was considerably bigger than ours and I'm sure would comfortably accommodate a couple. Simon (our self confessed "super sexe" bartender) was excellent and managed the after hockey beer fueled crowd extremely well. He was quick with a laugh & a beer and made us feel very welcomed to Montreal and the hotel. The Cora's restaurant and foyer gift shop were both convenient when we needed a quick breakfast or souvenirs. The hotel is apparently under refurbishment and whilst we obviously had an older room we didn't notice any noise from the work. The only gripe would be the lack of house keeping as we didn't have our room attended to in two days. All in all the hotel was exactly what we expected and wanted - simple, clean and unbeatable location.

Room Tip: Book a king room!

Super CLEAN!!!! It was first what we with my wife noticed when entered the room. New renovation for sure done it's job. Not small, but very cosy rooms with LCD HDTV, comfortable bed, and clean but small bathroom(but you shouldn't take care to much about size of bathroom when you are on weekend in downtown of Montreal)
Parking just cross the street, so it was easy to access my car. Overal hotel is very decent and well kept! Defenetly will stay there next time!

Stayed for a weekend in the spring. The room we were in appeared newly remodeled, and was very clean. Small, but more than adequate for a weekend getaway to Montreal. Very close to many great restaurants and attractions downtown. The lobby was under construction, but this did not affect us at all. The only problem I had was that the wifi signal in our room was fairly poor. Would definitely book here again.

bathroom was poorly cleaned - previous guests had written names on bathroom mirror in steam. these remained the duration of our stay Towels smelled very strongly of gasoline. . When we opened the phone book to look for a place to dine on our first night a condom fell out of the book, unused but still - ick! and to top it off, on the morning we were leaving we noticed an infestation of ants, shaking ants out of our shoes to get ready to leave was very disturbing (especially since we were staying on the fourth floor). We chose to stay based on price and positive reviews online - will never be staying with a Best Western hotel again. We were very grossed out to put it bluntly. And when we went to check out and wished to speak to someone about concerns the staff were too busy talking amongst themselves and simply took our keycards without even asking what room we were in and waved us off. though the first night we were there (march 29th) the young man at the desk was delightful, we did not see him again and was unimpressed with the rest of the staff. the location and price were the only good things about this place, and even then it was simply not worth it.
