“Reasonable value, excellent city centre location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2013

The location is the best thing about this hotel. It is just across the road from the airport bus stop and the Berri-UQAM interchange metro station and walking distance from Old Montreal, the port, Chinatown and the buzzy restaurants in Rue St Denis. The price is reasonable for a large city centre hotel but the decor is a little tired. Large rooms and nice bathrooms. There is a decent sized swimming pool and a gym. Breakfast quite an expensive extra but good. Wonderful views of the city from the higher floors.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front at least 7 floors up have great view.

The first room they put me in had leftover food pieces behind the night table, an empty cookie box behind the chair, black mold in the bathroom on the shower ceiling and rust stains streaming down the tub.

I requested a move.
The next room they put me in was no better. The bathroom tub floor - in the corner was black ( I guess they figured no one looks behind the shower curtain). Behind the bathroom door I found the ledge to have so much dust that the Ledge was actually gray in color. The wallpaper was peeling and under the sink had the same dust issue. All of this was seen while using the bathroom . Disgusting!!!
Hallway carpets are filthy.

Restaurant- average food and tge Knife that they had at my table was dirty .

We will NEVER go back- dirty place

This hotel needs updating. The most memorable negative point I have is the shower. It was obviously a poor "bath/tub-fitter" job because the floor of the tub didn't fit properly, with air space between the old tub and the new piece. I felt like I was going to fall over because it was wobbly! The neighbourhood was a bit sketchy. My sister was walking across the street to McDonalds at 6 a.m. and some street person was yelling or calling her and running towards her! We would not stay here again.

Hotel Gouverneur Place Dupris is near the bus station & Metro Berri-UQAM station, and one can walk to the shopping streets on Ste Catherine, either West or East. The hotel is very economically priced, so everything is scaled down to bare minimum -- which is not to say it is no good. It is adequate, and if you are not a demanding person, it would be a decent hotel to stay. Even if you do not like this hotel (reviews are mixed), there will always be plenty of people staying here -- occupancy rate is quite high. I dont see many guests eating here so dont bother about breakfast. There is a supermarket, and a food center (offering varieties of fast food) just within the shopping annex of the hotel building. And in Montreal, you are expected to venture out and try cuisines from all over the world.

Stayed here in late Sept 2013. Found it to be a comfortable, clean, and lovely place. The staff, front desk and concierge, were great! Very accommodating. At first I was put in a regular room when I had requested handicapped. They switched it immediately with no hassle. The hotel is very handicapped friendly! My only complaint was the limited ability to control the temperature in the room. I found this in other hotels in Canada too. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice while there and had very good meals both times. The service was excellent too. It is also an easy walk to the old town area. We had a nice view of the city from our window. Highly recommend.

The Hotel Governeur used to be a polished business-type hotel, along the lines of the better Marriott's in the United States. It is still very much a business hotel that caters to all visitors but is very worn out and in need of a total update. I have been staying here on and off since the early 90's and what was shiny and new back then is now dull and worn. The housekeeping does a great job maintaining the overused furniture and bathroom fixtures and sagging bedding. No match for modern hotels with super comfortable bedding, flat-screen TV's and in-room refrigerators. Seems like only the carpeting and Keurig coffee machines are the only representatives of 21st century hotel fixtures. The alarm clock was flashing the wrong time and there are not nearly enough electrical outlets at the uncomfortable desk for plugging in your phone and laptop without having to unplug a lamp or two. The underground parking garage (daily fee) is convenient but an adventure with many pillars and low overhead. On the other hand, professional service, cleanliness and location are plusses. Still billing itself as a 4-star property, the Governeur is barely a 3-star hotel, but a facelift could easily bring it back where it should be.

I've stayed multiple times at this hotel over the past 10 years. It seems to never change. The front desk staff are always friendly, helpful, and professional. The rooms are never surprising, at least on the Superior and Executive Floors, where I opt to stay. The pool, although quite shallow, provides a long enough distance to do laps, when the weather outside isn't great for running. You can walk or take the Metro anywhere from nearby this hotel. Parking on the street is nearby, and as long as you obey the permitted only parking signs, you can park free, without fear of vandalism or being towed!
No complaints whatsoever! I always get the free cold breakfast coupons, but I never use them because Chez Cora is so close by. Also, the IGA, located in the hotel's adjacent shopping mall complex is quite something...gourmet veggies, fruits, pastries, meats, cheeses, everything you would want...And if that's not enough, there are the very nice (and some upscale) fast food places also in the lobby of the shopping mall, so you don't even have to exit the building to enjoy a meal!
Nearby is the gay village, with its host of restaurants, bars, and other assorted nightlife spots. I love staying here because no matter how naughty you are at night, you always come home to a safe, known place! Enjoy! It's family and gay friendly. I've never felt anything but welcome!

Room Tip: I choose the Superior Class or Executive Rooms, as they're a bit more updated, and located on hi...
